Today, we are officially 100 days away from the return of Iowa Hawkeyes football.

So to celebrate, this thread will be a dedicated daily countdown reliving either past plays, players, or moments in Iowa football history from each respective day until the big day finally arrives!

Today we begin the countdown with some of the most memorable 100+ yard plays in Iowa football history.

Great thread idea

Coming in at 98, it's an INT tied for longest return in program history. Adam Shada set the record in 2006 with a late INT against Purdue (couldn't find a highlight). Today's highlight features Tanner Miller with an early pick 6 that helped lead to a blowout win for the Hawks over the Mildcats in 2011.

To celebrate 94 days remaining until the return of Iowa football, there's only one way we can truly do that in grand style....................and that is to celebrate the amazing alt winged uniforms that debuted in 1994!!!! :D

Yeah? :D ........................Guys?

Here is a makeup for yesterday. To belatedly celebrate 93 days, we feature former Hawk #93 Jeff Nelson

jeff_nelson.jpg

Nelson was a DT for the Hawks from 1989-1992, racking up 127 total tackles, including 24 tackles for a loss, and 8 sacks in his Iowa career. Nelson was also a cog in the middle for those highly successful Hayden Fry teams in 1990 and 1991.

Nelson is the father of another former Hawk, Anthony Nelson, who also had great success at Iowa along the DL, and is currently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

For today's feature, I've linked Levi Mitchell's 92 yd KR for a TD on the opening kickoff in a 1969 home contest against Washington State. Mitchell's score would set the tone for a Hawkeye beatdown of the Cougars on this day, as Iowa would roll to a 61-35 victory.

*Jump to 29 seconds to see the play. (I'm not tech savvy enough to link the video right to the start of that particular play......)

And remember FOOK WISCONSIN

Sorry fellas, I've been getting behind on this.

For 91 and 90 we're gonna do a tandem. When most Hawkeye fans hear these numbers, the first thing that comes to mind is probably the last two truly great Hayden Fry teams of the early 90s, including our last Rose Bowl-bound B10 championship team.

So with that, here are some highlights from two of the most memorable seasons in Iowa football history:

1991-

1990-

To make up for Day 89, we go back to 1986 in the Battle for Floyd of Rosedale, as Peter Marciano weaves past Minnesota defenders for an 89-yd punt return touchdown that helped kickstart the Hawkeye rally, as they would go on to win in thrilling fashion, 30-27, over the Gophers.

Clinton Solomon helping torch OSU in 2004 is my #88 highlight. That win was therapeutic.
That will be today's spotlight player as we celebrate 88 days until the return of Hawkeye football!

#88 (also #3 as a FR) Clinton Solomon played 3 years with the Hawkeyes from 2002-2005. In that time, he caught 118 passes for a total of 1,864 yds and 14 TDs, emerging as the top WR for Iowa in the '04 and '05 seasons.

Solomon spent his sophomore season in 2003 at Iowa Central to take care of grades, before returning to the Hawks the following year.

The 86 Goofer game is a classic. Capped by a 15-yard penalty on a failed kick that let Houghtlin retry and win the game. That's Iowa State level stuff right there.
