Wrestling Fans,

I've put together an interactive excel document for the 2015 NCAA championships. Click the link and then download.

All you have to do is enter the scores in the yellow cells and the sheet does the rest.

There are some quirks with the scoring though.

If there is a TF with no back points, then you would need to have the winner be exactly 20 points more than the loser.

e.g: Gilman wins 26-12 on 13 takedowns...you would need to write 32-12 so that he only gets the 1 bonus point, instead of 1.5.

If there is a Fall, the score needs to be a difference of 30. (I always just put a fall as 30-0). This will ensure the 2 additonal bonus points.

Please download it, play around with results, etc. Let me know if something isn't quite working correctly. I built it off of last years brackets and everything came out OK, so then just updated for 2015.

Comments and Suggestions are always welcome.

Interactive Excel Bracket

I haven't played with it yet, but it looks great. I won't be getting much done at work today...thanks!

I have a few questions.

1) Is this a bracket pool with others? Does everyone keep track of their own scores, or do you or excel do that for us? Do you get points for just picking the right winner?

2) In the yellow boxes do you put how many points the individual will score in the match? ex. If I think Waters will beat the ODU kid 12-1 would I put 12 in the Waters box and 1 in the ODU kid's box?

My results at 141 did not go in the team scores but other than that this is really cool.

1. This isn't a pool, but just an excel version of the brackets for those that want to stay on top of it home or like to fantasize of what if scenarios. I'm half expecting someone here to bring back the results if all wrestlers wrestle to their seed with no bonus, what the team scores will be. It provides you a way to see what would happen if someone loses in the quarterfinals, you can see who they would get in the consolation paths, etc

2. The yellow box next to the name indicates the score of that match. So in your example, if Waters beats the ODU kid, you would put 12 in the box next to Waters, and 1 in the box next to ODU kid. The sheet will auto forward waters to the next round, and also drop the ODU kid to the consolation round below. If you scroll to the right of the bracket, you'll see the running scores per round of each wrestler, so you should see Waters with 2 points (1 advancement, 1 Bonus)

Likewise, you can check the snapshot tab and see that Waters is the leading individual scorer and Missouri is the team leader at that moment.

Thanks for catching that. I've fixed it and re-uploaded.

V2 is there.

Great work, Luther! Good job.

One suggestion...in the sheets I've done (just scoring sheets, not brackets), I've used "F", "DF", "FF" in the IF formulas to produce the 3 total points instead of relying on a score differential. TF's are a problem, of course, so your scoring solution seems to be a decent work-around.

Luther -- I have the same problem with 149 through 285. 25, 33, and 41 seem to work fine.

Thanks.

I reviewed that whole sheet and pretty sure i fixed it all now. Tried to do a shortcut early, and it's cost me!

new spreadsheet is up.

Version 4

I was the one messing up...With the pig tail, once we designate a winner are we supposed to put them up in the blank space?

It doesn't tabulate the team scores for me even after redownloading the spreadsheet. Does it need to be excel?

John

No, the gap in the A column should be left blank...the scores on the right fill in automatically based on the pigtail winner. The winner slides to the 1st round spot normally reserved on a 32 man and the loser drops to the 33 line.

Will it update our picks to what actually happened in the tournament to see if we were right or wrong?

My wife is an excel master and I will have here look at it. If she can make changes for the good of the group I would like to email you(Lutherace) if thats okay.

This sheet is great. Thanks so much for posting. Even better it tells me the hawks are gonna win this thing...

First quick pass gave me: 113.5 Iowa, 109 Ohio St, 103 Missouri, 98 Minnesota

Top Scorers: Stieber, Dean, Dieringer, Martinez

Iowa: Gilman (11, 5th), Clark (17, 2nd), Jeva (10, 6th), Sorenson (18, 2nd), Kelly (1.5, 3-2), Moore (5.5, 8th), Evans (16.5, 3rd), Brooks (14, 4th), Burak (9, 6th), Telford (11, 5th)

OSU: Tomasello (13.5), DiJulis (12), Stieber (27.5), Stieber (9), Demas (10), Jordan (14.5), Martin (6.5), Courts (1.5), Synder (14), Tavanello (0.5)

I might be a bit too confident in Moore & Brooks, Gilman & Telford have rough draws.... I see Sorenson beating Drake but losing to JT.
