I knew this, but had forgotten until somebody brought it up on CR.

Iowa and Iowa State both play in stadiums that bear the name of a former Cyclone football player.

Jack Trice and Nile Kinnick were both Cyclones. Nile Kinnick, Jr., played at Iowa.

How can this be i always thought you weren’t a cyclone until you graduated?

Iowa State's only conference championship teams were coached by a former Iowa football player..........and then they named their field and stadium after him.

Deal with it.

Are you kidding? Gable was undefeated through high school and college until his last match of college. Lost to Larry Owings in McGaw Hall in Evanston.

So he left isu with a loss, left Iowa setting records. Looks like an upgrade all the way around.

Touche, but guess what. Iowa had won national titles before and after Gable.

Since this is a contest, I'd say we're still ahead. :D
Yeah. In 1934 they tied with Okie State. Gable wasn't head coach when they won their next one, but he was the assistant and everybody realized he deserved the credit.

Nile Kinnick Sr. had three kids, all boys. The two oldest died in World War II.

If you are a parent, think about that for a minute.

Gable made his fame as an USA Olympian, not Cyclone.

No sh!t Sherlock. He still wasn’t famous outside of Iowa until his Olympic success and it wasn’t being a cyclone that did it.

This. Dan Gable was the most famous amateur wrestler in the United States before he even went to freestyle.
