Okay. It's a long time coming and I'm finally ditching cable because we can't afford this nonsense anymore.

Probably going youtube TV.
Two cellphones
Two laptops
One tablet (rarely used)
Three Google home devices
Xbox for gaming
Oculus for gaming

What do you think the target should be?

500?

I have YouTube TV for $77 a month. I like the ability to record cable news shows so I can fast forward through the commercials.

CSB.

Who is your internet provider? And what is the reading on your incoming signal vs what they say you should be getting?

I have fiber through my cable company, the lowest speed I can get is 200 Down, 200 upload. Runs close to 240 always anyway. I wouldn't pay extra to get faster than that.

I'm paying $56 for just the internet service. Federal law prohibits taxes and fees on internet, that's a good deal.

I have 1 Gb upload/download but that's mainly because metronet is so relatively cheap. We were paying around $210/month for Comcast/Xfinity TV and internet. $59.99 for 1 Gb Metronet for 6 months and then it goes to $79.99.

500 Mb is plenty for your situation. If they have 200-250 Mb as an option I would try that first. You can stream Netflix 4k with 15 Mb.

I got MetroNet 1G upload/1G download for 79.99 a month.
3 Tvs, 3 Firesticks, 2 Phones, 2 extra smart tvs, xbox, ps5, when I have my kids 2 ipads connect also.
Have had zero issue with them.

Have similar number of devices and work from home. On a fiber 250 plan that is perfectly fine. I do have wired ports for a couple of TV's and my work laptop but everything on WiFi works just as well.

Honestly bud from my experience and having a friend in the field you are 9/10 times better choosing your local fiber internet company if you are lucky enough to have one.
Centurylink is awful and the past couple years I had Sparklight (Old CableOne) and it was awful. If i streamed anything i had to turn other devices off of wifi to prevent buffering. MetroNet coming to Sioux City last year was an absolute godsend.

500? No way! This is what you need:

I'd agree with the 100 unless the gaming usage is particularly heavy...

Our fiber has been outstanding. Fiber is symmetrical so you have even download and upload speeds. Not sure if this is true for everyone, it has been for us, but our screen loading for streaming apps, online gaming for the kids, and video conferencing for the lady friend run flawlessly now. The throttled upload speeds could bog us down when there was any amount of data going out to the net at the same time. That doesn't happen anymore.

So any fiber is superior to other cable/dsl options. Doesn't even need to be that fast because you'll get the advertised speeds.

$59.99 for Cox Gigablast for two years. At the end of those two years, there’s always a deal for $59.99 for two years. It’s a vicious cycle. ;)

That's fair, I'll take suggestions on streaming services. YTT seems like the best option for what we watch.
I wish it was still $35/month like when they first started and less channels. I don't need all the channels, nor do I want to pay for them.

Download speed at 46
Is this from a wifi connected device? Way to test it is to connect an ethernet wire directly from router to laptop and then see if you are really getting the 250. Wifi has too many factors for an accurate reading.

We kept meaning to drop mediacom and every time I'd call to cancel they'd throw more deals at me. At the end we were on the 1GB internet, every possible channel they offered plan. I would get the 1GB speeds on wired connections. We were actually fine with it for many years until started having frequent internet connection issues that their techs could not resolve. Finally said f it and went with our local fiber provider. Don't know were you're at but I'm in area with Southslope and regret not switching to them sooner. 2 years now and have had no issues. Southslope's "250" plan is much better than Mediacom's 1GB.

It's not all about speed. Latency is just as important. Let's say you buy internet service from Company A at a speed of 200. However Company A and 5 other providers route their traffic through Company B. Company B speeds are 100, but there are literally thousands of users all using the same pipe. This is where the choke point happens and regardless of what Company A says, they are only as good as Company B. It's like having a 100mph speed limit but your car can only go 50mph.

I use Hulu + Live, similar to YTTV in price. Check the channel listings and see which you prefer. The cool thing is you can cancel one and start the other at any point because there's no contract.

We have a “price for life” locked in at $85 with CenturyLink. 1 Gbps speed. Rarely have issues. We have a Google mesh setup throughout the house. Mesh setup says we average 750-800 Mbps; however, when I run a speed test on my phone I get 36 Mbps download and 6 Mbps upload.
