Iowa’s Black Pants Uniforms...

Really a nice, clean look especially for the night games. They were the Hawkeye highlight at Penn State, for sure.
The “all black” uniform is good alternative look at home, too.

Id get rid of the yellow stripe (or make it smaller) and put a small tigerhawk on the front leg opposite the leg with the swoosh

“Back in Black” on the tunnel wall.
“Back in Black” playing as they come out the tunnel.

It was a black out so black socks are ok. But I would think occasionally wearing gold socks with the black pants, and I think a thinner gold stripe is better, would be cool and make them look really fast

AFAIK Iowa doesn't have white pants. Although I've seen several college and pro teams wearing plain white pants that are probably a stock item.

I'll solve this problem for you all:

2017 Ohio State alt unis- reserve only for the biggest of games, but un-retire them nonetheless. If Iowa doesn't have a big regular season game in a given season........keep em on the shelf on standby.

2010 Evy era alt unis- make a semi-annual uniform game (even years), either early season non-con game (or gold rush game), or every once in a while, use for our black and gold stripe game

2004 Kinnick era unis- bring em back every so often to commemorate the Ironmen and Kinnick Stadium, along with the early 20th Century Hawks teams.

Black pants- Blackout game only

US flag tiger hawk logo- Veteran's Day weekend

Traditional Steelers uniforms (home/away) for everything else................and that's it.


Deal with it.

I'm glad that the Hawks don't really mess with the helmets. But if they wanted to try the mirrored black helmets that might be cool.

While we're on a somewhat related subject...

...I hate the white front helmet bumper, especially for the home games. For road games it's less noticeable with white jerseys, but for home games we have black tops, black helmets, why not make the front of the helmet black or gold?

I do like the captains bars though.

At Illinois in '71 (last game of season, right after the home blackout vs Indiana).

Back in Nile Kinnick's time, we wore white pants, but I don't know if the 'white jersey on the road' thing had started yet, at least for all teams. I don't recall seeing any pics of that.

Back in the FXL days,, I believe Iowa had 3 uniform alternatives...black pants, white pants, black jersey, white jersey and an all black helmet. Comings brought back the traditional gold pant with black or white jersey and gold helmet.

I didn't think the black's were any better for the aways. They looked cool with the homes tho.

I think we don't mess with the helmets much because they went to those custom made for each player helmets that cost over $1000 per player. The cost of changing helmets a lot would be pretty excessive....

The two tone socks were the norm when KF was in the NFL. Looks to me like most of today's NFL players do whatever they want sock-wise.

I be.ueve the NFF has loosened its uniform requirements the past few years. Back in the day, everyone had to wear the same uniform, socks included.
I can remember when Joe Namath wore white shoes and what a stir that created...and then there was Billy “white shoes” Johnson, right?

Yeah, I think the NFL used to require tucked-in jerseys, but that's been relaxed. A lot of untucked undershirts these days, as with college.

Yeah, I don't understand how hard this is to make these an almost yearly thing, and why so many fans have essentially forgotten that these even existed..............

I mean it's a perfect throwback uniform because of its simplicity and re-usability.

Way too much gray and not enough gold/yellow. There is literally no gold tiger hawk any where on the uniform or helmet. And the gray polo stripes look ridiculous. No thanks.

There's a gold tiger hawk on right hip, but I do agree we can do better.

I like the triple stripe down the center of the helmet. I think that would look cool on our regular helmets- but in yellow- similar to the Detroit Lion's helmet.
