You will never convince me that we didn't play faster and with more confidence in the uni's last year against OSU....we should have went to them for good and never looked back. But no, we can't ditch the knee high white socks for something the players and every fan under 50 likes....that would be destroying the tradition of all those National Championship runs.

Is it really fair to put throwbacks on this list. They are going to historical representation not a cool factor.

You're doggone right it is. When they look as shitty as ours have looked, why even do a throwback game?

Let's look to the future and life in the present. Let's FIGHT FOR IOWA!!!!!!!!!!!;)

These are my favorite

Yes!

These need to be an alt uni every single year.

I also wouldn't mind seeing the OSU jerseys coming back some time in the near future, but doubt it. Here's how I'd rank the alt uniforms we've done and I apologize if I miss any.

2010 unis vs Ball State....best representation of the uniforms Iowa wore during one of their most successful periods for foot in school history

2017 unis vs OSU....I think this is what the kids these days call "swag"......oh and 55-24 wasn't bad either.

2004 unis vs Kent State....we were one of the first to do the whole throwback game concept. They are definitely not our worst uniform since 2000. Not even close.

2015 unis vs Minnesota....I liked them for what they were. Certainly a break from the norm and gave the fans what a lot of them had been wanting with the all black unis.

2012 unis vs Iowa State....big drop off here. The effort and concept was nice. A uniform to commemorate two of the most decorated teams in Iowa football history......the final product just came off a little bland......much like our effort in that game.

2012 unis vs Purdue....f***ing terrible and should've easily been the one picked in the story above, but I can see how it might've been missed. I, myself, have done everything I can to forget that that season ever happened. ;)

As far as our regular uniforms go, there's been several slight alterations through the years, but the biggest change ended being one of the best at the right time.

If the OP linked story had just done regular uniforms then ours from 2000-2001 would fit the bill. They were very much a low-budget product of the times. I believe Addidas was the sponsor. The white lettering on the back was a carryover from the end of the Hayden era.

In 2002 we went back to the traditional uni design we had when Fry first arrived and we've kept it since. I'd say it worked out pretty well for us that year as well.

Can only barely see it in the pic, but the striping on those pants was awesome. These are probably the third or fourth best alternative uniforms that we’ve had since 2000. Especially when you compare them to what they were trying to imitate. Definitely not the worst.

I generally agree with what you say here but think you have your years mixed up on regular jerseys...Kirk brought back the classic look we have now in 99-01 but Reebok was the sponsor. Went Nike 02. I think the era you are talking about is 96-98, just after the banana peels. The white Iowa on chest looked bad and the tri color collar was just too much.

The uniforms the team wore for the game Greenway scored a touchdown. Those were the worst because of how boring they were. The throwbacks tend to be that way. Bland and uninspiring.

I liked the Lauterbur-era uniforms. Obviously the karma with those is too horrible to even contemplate. But then I also liked the banana peels...
