Iowa #25 AP // ISU #24

Wisconsin at #6. Another great opportunity for Iowa in Madison on Saturday which, I presume, will air at 2:30 on ABC.

I was dead wrong about the OSU game. I figured it would be something like 55-24, but with the Hawkeyes on the wrong end of it.

But then Iowa finally unleashed the offense so many of us have been calling for, including even a brilliant trick play, and gee, they got different results. Funny how that happens, even against OSU, after floundering against far lesser opposition.

Once again the Hawkeyes have an opportunity, not just for the rest of this year, but for years to come. But it all hinges on maintaining the kind of play calling we saw yesterday. The ingredients are there, and now everybody knows it.

Give KF and the whole staff credit. But they have to remember how this happened: imaginative, unpredictable offense; passing to open the run; and a little trickeration. It was fun for everyone--but the Buckeyes. Keep that approach and Iowa could be on the road to consistent, serious national ranking that will leave Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan State and the rest of the league jealous.

Wisconsin got screwed in that poll. Dropped 2 spots to #6 and 3 teams with 1 loss are now higher ranked than them.

The only reason I care is that I would enjoy another top 5 victory this coming saturday.

And moving up in the rankings after we win at Wisconsin:)

I'm still salty about that Penn State game. Imagine and if we had that win on our record.
Agree OSU and PSU wins would look pretty good but there will always be what ifs. We were inches from winning that game but we really didn't deserve to win that game imo. PSU really dominated us. Also we could easily have lost to ISU. Overall I'd say our record pretty much reflects our body of work. Unlke many years, we really don't have any bad losses this year. NW seems like the biggest lost opportunity to me. I think not having Jewel may have cost us that game, but every team has injuries they have to overcome.

The AP is adjusting to the CFP rankings... Most expected Wiscy to drop in the AP today. Top 5 top 6, whatever. Iowa needs to take care of business regardless

I'm more salty about that NW loss.... Team we should of beat and the fate of hthe west would be in our hands.

But yeah psu is a bad wound. However, this team is 9-3 caliber. Wisky better look the heck out

This really is nonsense, Iowa beat ISU on the road.

Just win football games and the rankings will take care of themselves.

Funny the difference a week makes. Last Sunday, there were about ten different threads on Matt Campbell and how much sexier the Clones looked compared to the Hawkeyes. This week? Lol. Just saying...

Not to belabor the point, but ISU is 4-1 over their last 5 games. Half of those wins came at the expense of teams rated in the Top 5. That carries a lot of weight--more than a road victory in early September does (think 2002).

Agreed. Especially when you consider how bad Northwestern's pass defense had been all season and how explosive Iowa's passing game was yesterday.

Still, with 3 very winnable games left, Iowa could easily finish 9-3. After the Northwestern loss, that's an incredible statement.

How did psu dominate us? From what I saw, Iowa had that game wrapped up until a last second play that was an inch away from being tipped. And don't give me the stats crap. It is overrated as Iowa played that game pretty much exactly how they wanted to.

Also, as much as isu could have been a loss, all three losses could have easily been wins.

I do agree with you though. We really don't have any bad losses. Northwestern is proving to be solid.

Just win.

Without using the score, please point to where in this chart they did not dominate Iowa.

Only way to explain it. There was no logical reason to drop Wisconsin after a 45-17 road victory. Bucky did get rewarded to #3 in the coaches poll.
The only poll that "matters" is the CFP.

blaming the refs already? lol
The OSU fans in the reddit game thread were the worst this year by far. Every play it was the refs gifting Iowa. Every other team this year was fun in the game thread, OSU fans were a miserable bunch. No fun at all. Good thing they all just stopped posting at the end of the 3rd.

Wisky is the conference's only chance at a CFP spot. Are the ref's gonna hand them the game? If Iowa knocks off Wisky, we're talking millions for the conference.
I would rather Iowa win than the conference get millions. Honestly, IDGAF if the conference doesn't get a CFP team in at all. That's someone else's problem, not Iowa's.

It's not really their fault but they haven't played any ranked teams as of yet. If anything the next time an undefeated mid-major G5 team is undefeated and sitting between 5-10 behind several 1 loss teams they won't be able to yell favoritism because Wisconsin is being treated the same way (even though an argument can certainly be made that the quality of their unranked teams is still far superior to the quality of the average G5 unranked teams).

To be fair, I don't know of a passionate fan base anywhere that would be a whole lot of fun to be around in the middle of an ass whooping like that.

As a former Iowan living in the great NW, I love seeing two teams from my home state residing in the weekly polls. Go Hawkeyes and Cyclones. In addition, both are bowl eligible.

We’ve had five one possession games. We went 2-3 in them. Really wish we could have gone 3-2. Or you could say we had three down to the wire games and only won one of them. Again, 7-2 would be so much better than 6-3. Oh well.

That's dumb logic. Should Iowa State be ranked ahead of Oklahoma? They beat them on the road. Nobody is considering head to head results when doing the rankings, you have to consider the entire resume.
Yeah im not understanding that myself. ISU has given 2 top 10 teams their only loss. On paper both those wins look better than our win over tOSU. Now on the other hand 3 loss West Virginia whose best win is ISU being ranked over Iowa is a travesty.
