Iowa 3 Pt Shooting. Brock is shooting a Team Best 38.1%

Fair enough, thanks for the info. Maybe Freeman demanded they offer Brock? hmmm

I kinda doubt it. Freeman committed about 8 months before Harding did.

It comes down to this…this is a poorly constructed roster. One of the downsides of positionless basketball? Maybe.
It's not ideal but Fran is making it worse with the combos he's putting out there together.

Usually when I think positionless basketball I think athletic multi skilled guys like the Murrays who can defend.

I'm not sure what you call a lineup of 4 guys who should be playing the 4 spot.

29.8% of our FG attempts are long 2s, that's the 80th highest rank in D1 out of 362 teams. So it's pretty high but not crazy. ISU is actually higher at 30.7% (69th) - they've taken far fewer total shots than we have. The lowest in the country is Cornell at 10.9% while the highest is Florida A&M at 48.1%.

thanks for the numbers. it's interesting....to me, at least....

now, how do we improve our D? ;)

Everyone, please chime in. No right or wrong answer but based on what you have seen, are we all in agreement that the starters (and the most minutes) should go to:

Brock
Tony
Payton
Ben (or Ladji???)
Owen

I am kinda leaning on Ladji over Ben....

Think you need Krikke's offense on the floor. He is slightly less of a defensive liability when pushed to the four with Freeman at the five. That allows Sandfort to play the three where he isn't abused as badly on the boards as at the four. I don't think Dembele brings enough offense yet, and is valuable off the bench. If his O develops, I can see him earning more and more minutes. It will be interesting to see how Brock fairs as he sees more larger guards in the Big 10. Bowen brings some juice getting to the hole, but disappears at times. Having said that, I don't see Fran pulling PMac from the starting line-up.

Pat and Ben have to be split up. Both are defensive liabilities and one is an offensive liability. I like Brock starting, Bowen backing Brock up, Dix has to play more, Ladji needs to be down low more.

I'd like to see a 3 guard line-up with 3 of Perkins, Brock, Dix or Bowen. Can't be any worse than what we've tried. Play them with Freeman and Krikke and bring Sandfort off the bench. Sandfort hasn't shown much as a starter, maybe he is more comfortable coming of the bench and being the offensive spark.

My pointless wishful thinking lineup.

1 Harding
2 Bowen
3 Perk
4. Sandfort
5. Freeman

With Dix, Dembele and Brauns as 3 main bench players.

That's 4 guards, 3 bigs and a tweener shooter. That's how a normal college team looks.

Krikke gets about 10 minutes and gets immediately benched for being lost on defense or not trying to contest shots in the lane.

Sandfort and Krikke never on the court together.

I put this in another thread. I want to see Sandfort guard a 4 instead of a 3 or 2. That may help him a bit.

The problem with that scenario is that Fran loves him his forwards and has featured his forwards since the beginning of his tenure at Iowa even going so far as implementing a positionless offensive which is probably one of the main causes of Iowa missing out of the second week of the NCAA tournament. Just my opinion....but I agree with your comments.
