Iowa at Indiana a 2:30 start on ESPN

Anyone know if there’s a good bar in the Charlotte airport? If not, I’m afraid I’m going to miss this one.

We will be there. Great place to tailgate and the scenery is very good. Too bad it's such a haul from CR/IC, close to 7.5 or so.

Yep -- you won't have any problems. Watched the semis of the NCAA Wrestling Championships in the Charlotte airport last spring -- no doubt you'll have plenty of options for watching Iowa-Indiana.

So we dodge the Mowan curse for another week? I wonder if KF has been sacrificing goats to avoid the 11:00 ESPN2 time slot.

Jobu says it's very bad to start game on ESPN2 with Beth Mowins as announcer.......
It's VERY bad.

Seriously, I think the team's performance has had a lot more to do with it than any blind luck or hocus pocus.

Go to D's tavern instead. Better Hawkeye vibe.

Totally disagree. Tom's Pizza has a larger Iowa crowd and has a better sense of friendliness. Also, it's just a better sports bar with the massive projection screens all around it. Not to mention Hawkeye gifts at halftime. The venue reminds me of watching a game at The Vine. D's was a mess the first game of the season. I don't want to bag on them but they simply were not prepared.

Thanks for the recs guys, but I will be at the Portland Art Museum all day for Portland Wordstock. Tom's and D's are about 15 minute drives from my location, not something I'll easily be able to step out for a little bit for. Hoping somewhere close will have ESPN on.

I went to Tom's once about 7-8 years ago, and no one seemed to give a crap about the game, no one was really talking to each other, the beer lineup was below average and the pizza was OK. That's quite a change from the Seattle game watch, where people are all high fiving each other and chatting with strangers, and the band is playing. The last time I went to D's, they had a big potluck where a bunch of Iowa people brought midwest food and set up a buffet. The bartender and owner were a lot friendlier too. Given, it's been 2 or so years since I've gone, so it may have changed.

That's really interesting, because your complaints about Tom's are exactly how I feel about D's. The owner of Tom's gives away stuff every halftime (including Portland Trailblazer tickets!) and I thought it felt way more communal than D's. That buffet/potluck sounds cool, but D's didn't even remotely have that type of vibe when I went for the first game.
