I think it could be a very good year for the hawks. I enjoy reading posts about the team. I have been going to Iowa baseball games for over ten years but many that post on this board know much more than me. How does everyone think the hawks will fare in 2019? To start who will be our number 3 weekend starter. Let’s hope Cole McDonald can duplicate his success from last year and Jack Dryer builds on his late season success from last year. Can people please post their projected starting lineups?
C. Martin/mccleary
1B. Padgett
2B. Boe
SS. Wetrich ????
3B. Elion
LF. Whelan
CF. Jenkins/Norman
RF. Adreon/McCaffrey

I could see Ben probst emerging as a possible closer. Any thoughts on who the number 3 guy and or midweek starter will be? Go hawks and I can not wait for the season to start

That's my guess for the lineup. I think Martin and Adreon will start. Wonder if Fullard will DH? Pitching staff it's always hard to predict. McDonald for sure and then who knows after that. I think the guys who were freshmen last year will be great this year. Looking forward to seeing Nettleton also.

Best Guess

C- Martin
1B- Padgett
2B- Boe
SS- Weitrich
3B- Elion
LF- Whelan
CF- Norman, Jenkins
RF- Mcaffrey
DH- Fullard- his bat needs to be in lineup

Rotation:
McDonald
Dryer
Judkins/Baumann

Midweek
Wallace/staff day

Is Wallace back? I thought he was going to be out this year due to the injury at the end of last season. I definitely think our offense will be our strength. If we are going to have a good year some of our young pitchers will have to step up. I forgot about Judkins. He should definitely compete for the number 3 starter or be one of the top guys out of the pen.

Is Sher in the running at SS?
From what I heard from one of the freshman, Sher is in the running at SS but Wetrich will be the guy. Sounds like he has made some good strides since last year. That said it sounds like Sher is legit too. Good depth there.
Also heard Fullard should definitely be in the lineup somewhere... DH/1B/OF but kid can flat out hit.

Heller would have to drop someone from the team. That can't be an easy decision.
Dropping someone at this point would likely not be very popular with the remainder of the team. I would guess a red shirt would be more of a possibility, especially if there is an injury situation.

Such a stupid freaking rule. Title IX is a joke and discriminatory
I may have missed it, but what does Title IX have to do with this case? The vagaries of Title IX are too many to be discussed here (for example, how the law has extended into schools determining guilt or innocence of things that should be in criminal court), but don't see the connection between this and Iowa baseball. Unless you are upset about the roster limit size. That actually benefits Iowa, as schools down south can't stockpile rosters of 50+ kids.

I'm absolutely talking about roster size. I am extremely familiar with the issues involved here regarding baseball.

I was actually assistant coach at a D1 school where I saw this and other issues firsthand.

You can even ask Rick Heller I'm positive he would want to be able to have more than 35 kids on the roster. And yes most of this bullshit is because of title IX
