Iowa goes down to Georgia and plays four game in four days....

Friday - vs Nebraska-Omaha @ 2:30pm - CJ Eldred
Saturday vs Seton Hall @ 3:30pm - Tyler Peyton
Sunday vs Savannah State @ Noon - Calvin Mathews
Monday - vs Point University @ 1:30pm - TBA

I heard all those teams except for Iowa had good weeks of practice. Don't know if the Hawks will even walk out with a single victory here.

Iowa loses to Omaha 3-2

It is safe to say that this Iowa team is bad offensively. Iowa had five hits total for two runs. The only runs were from a two run HR by Nick Roscetti in the 1st inning.

C.J. Eldred went six innings and gave up ten hits and three earned runs.

I had to say it folks, but given our schedule this is not a B1G tournament team.

What's that saying about Iowa baseball? I know someone use to bring it up. It's on the tip of my tongue.....

Peyton gave up a grand slam in the 1st inning. Iowa has had runners on in each of the first two innings, yet our old friend the double play has made a return which is not letting Iowa do anything offensively.

How can this team be SO BAD offensively? It's not even laughable at this point. When I saw Seton Hall up 4-0, I said to myself "that should about do it"

Hey Seton Hall had a good week of practice. It's showing.

I appreciate your sarcasm from my football posts. It seems that our juco guys that put up amazing offensive numbers at that level cannot replicate their success even partially.

Iowa finally plated a run in the 7th inning against Seton Hall. That means between the 1st inning against Omaha and now Iowa went 14 innings without scoring a run.

Iowa down 7-1 to SH

Iowa loses to Seton Hall 7-1. Iowa actually outhit Seton Hall eight to six. Iowa had two guys on base in the 8th and 9th. Iowa then proceeded to strike out three times in a row in the 8th and two times in a row in the 9th to end the game.

Going to be hard to win if Iowa can't score runs.

Iowa will face Savannah State on Sunday weather permitting. I think rain is likely in Georgia.

A game Iowa should win, Savannah State is not very good. Iowa faces non-division I Point University on Monday then next week we have a three game series @ Missouri State. Probably the best team we've played to date.

Calvin Mathews did not have one of his better outings as he went 3 2/3 and gave up 4 ER, 2 hits, 3 BB, 3 K's. He also gave up a homerun, had a balk, and a wild pitch that cost Iowa. Hopefully he can shake it off.

Nick Gallagher pitched well for Iowa throwing 5 1/3 innings on 65 pitches allowing three hits and getting four K's. I am fairly certain that is his best outing as a Hawkeye. He got credited for the W.

Offensively too much to post, but Joel Booker was 3-6 with 4 RBI's, one homerun. Austin Guzzo hit a solo homerun as well.

It's hard to take much away from beating Savannah St. and a Division 2 school but it seems the bats are warming up a bit.

The bats have "warmed" up against teams they should have such as Chicago State, Savannah State, NAIA Northwestern, and Point. No offense to Chicago State and Savannah State, but they are terrible. If Iowa can go out and score 5+ runs on Friday vs Missouri State, then I will be convinced the bats are warming up.

I feel the same way. Outside of Heller's first year Iowa has lacked an offensive punch.

I'd argue the offense was better last year. Was it amazing? No

However, they did score runs plenty of times in the 4-7 range. This years team seems to have trouble doing that even against Seton Hall, Nebraska-Omaha, Southern Illinois, etc...

Iowa did struggle last year against what I would call the very good pitchers they faced, but they still found a way at times to score 2-3 runs against them. Add that with how our guys pitched last year and most of the time it was enough, while the 4-7 range was definitely enough. Iowa's main issue last year was the unreal amount of double plays they hit into.
