Tyreke Williams, Freshman, was honored as 1st team NJCAA All American. Averaged 43 yards and hit an 85 yard punt, the longest in NJCAA.

He was decked out in Iowa gear while being awarded be and he went to high school at Clear Creek Amana.

He's a true Freshman so I assume he'll redshirt at ICCC next year and have 3 years to play D1.

ICCC has had an All American punter each year since 2011. Maybe bring the special teams coach with Williams.

this kid is an all around good athlete. Was really surprised he didn't go D1 right out of high school.

He has to redshirt to play D1? He can't be eligible for the Hawks in '18?

Would depend on his high achool grades and test scores. If he had scores then could play in 18. If not then he has to graduate from two year college. Redshirting would be his option could play then two years at D 1

I assuming that is how you get the "3 to play 2" guys you hear about?

No stone left unturned. The coach thing will turn this thread into a pissing contest but I do believe they need to really evaluate the punting situation. You cannot put such an emphasis on feild position and feel comfortable with what we have.

Here is the thing, we had awesome kick coverage, awesome punt coverage, a terrific FG unit and did a nice job on special teams "trick" plays....

But we had very poor Punting as a whole. So is that the coaches fault or did our partners underachieve?

It seems fairly obvious to me, but I'd entertain opinions?

Saw Tyreke play in HS multiple times. Really strong leg (obviously). Didn't ever look to me like he was going for hangtime/guaranteed fair catch/zero return. His JUCO year's stats show only 6 of his punts were fair caught. Can't see a net punting stat there.
I'm not trying to poo-poo his talent or potential, but Kirk values fair catches on punts so much he even has his return guys do it seemingly all the time

Saw him in HS. Kid has a cannon for a leg. Would be a good emergency or long fg kicker as well. Not sure why we didn't bring him in in the first place.

"Long" punt is an absolutely worthless statistic, unless somehow you think he booted it, with hangtime, through the air for 83 yards. Certainly a good average. Why would he redshirt?

If our coach was going to change punters he would have done it long ago. Rastetter is too connected
Don't bet on it. I believe that Gersonde had an on and off battle all season with a leg injury. When he did get some chances, he was very inconsistent. But hey, if it makes you feel better, making that up , knock your self out. As Wasn't Drunk posted, a solid punting game is critical to Iowa's style of play. The coaches know that, thats why they gave Gersonde a scholorship. Unfortunately he wasn't up to the task this year. I'd be pretty certain will see some competition in here for the job, before summer camp.

Stop with the reasonable discourse, it doesn't fly on here...:D

I believe its a back issue.

If you take away the 86 yarder what would his average be ? 41 yards ? Is that good enough ?

Get him. I could literally punt better than anything we have right now, and my kicking leg has been amputated.

Then he would have 78 punts for 3301 yards (42.3) rather than 79 punts for 3386 (42.9). What kind of math are you doing?

I wasn't doing any math. I have no idea of how many yards he punted or how many times he punted. I thought that as good as this Iowa Western team was this year he wouldn't have punted nearly that many times. If they played 12 games that is 6.5 times per game.
That seems like a lot. Also, if he only had 6 punts fair caught that is 7.6% of his punts . That is a low number .
But hey thanks CP84 for being a smart ass.

Ryan Gersonde averaged 42.5 this year without an 85 yarder to skew the average.

Punt returns seems to struggle as well.

Yes you idiot
That would be hilarious to watch your dumbass try and punt. Good luck generating any momentum with your stump as that's the leg you push off with. Have you ever played a sport in your life?

Maybe try hitting it with your purse you might have more luck

Done it before. 10 yards is cake

He played for Iowa Central as stated above, not Iowa Western.
