The Iowa City Driver’s License Station will be closing and moving to a larger location in Coralville by the end of the month.

The move means that driver’s license services in the area will move from the east side of Iowa City to the west side of Coralville.

The last day of services at the current location at Eastdale Mall, 1700 S. First Ave. in Iowa City, will be Wednesday, July 26. No services will be available there until the staff and equipment is moved to the new Coralville location.

The Coralville location, at 2303 Jones Blvd., opens at 8 a.m. Monday, July 31. This site is on Coralville’s west side off Interstate 80 near Theisen’s and Slumberland Furniture.

The Iowa Department of Transportation confirmed the move Friday to The Gazette.

Iowa DOT spokesperson Andrea Henry said the department began a search for a new location in 2022 because of the need for a larger location to help deliver a quality customer experience.

“After a lengthy search in the Iowa City/Coralville area, we found a site that meets the needs of our customers with more square footage and a modern and inviting space to provide them with excellent service,” Henry said.

Appointments will transfer over for individuals who had something scheduled after the Iowa City location closes, Henry said. Customers with appointments have been notified of which location they should report to.

Individuals are encouraged to schedule appointments at iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/service-selector. Henry said same-day service requests are available for immediate service needs.

Commercial driver’s license testing will continue to be administered at Lineage Logistics, 2710 U.S. Highway 6 in Iowa City.
