Iowa college student successfully uses ChatGPT to get an A on a paper

Not surprised. Soon you will need AI to detect other AI.

AI benefits mankind how exactly?
Well...

AI, or artificial intelligence, has the potential to benefit mankind in numerous ways. Here are some examples:

  1. Increased Efficiency: AI can automate tasks that are repetitive, time-consuming, and require a high degree of accuracy. This can increase efficiency and productivity in various industries, from manufacturing to healthcare.
  2. Improved Decision Making: AI can analyze vast amounts of data and provide insights that can help businesses and organizations make informed decisions. This can improve efficiency, reduce costs, and drive innovation.
  3. Enhanced Customer Experience: AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants can provide personalized and immediate customer service, improving the overall experience for consumers.
  4. Advancements in Healthcare: AI can be used to analyze medical data and provide insights that can aid in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. It can also help healthcare providers deliver more personalized care and improve patient outcomes.
  5. Increased Safety: AI can be used to detect potential safety hazards and prevent accidents in industries such as transportation and construction.
  6. Environmental Protection: AI can be used to monitor and analyze environmental data to detect and mitigate environmental risks and support conservation efforts.
Overall, AI has the potential to improve our lives in countless ways, and as the technology continues to advance, we can expect to see even more benefits in the future.

I seriously believe we are ****ing ourselves. Countless movies previewing this stuff yet we just can’t seem to help it.

I picture a future that’s a combination of Wall-E and The Terminator.

I was happy to see that the voice assistants are falling out of favor.

I dont understand the need for a smart house. Having a thermostat you can program is good, but you dont need an internet connection for that.

Just no....

Lol...nothing in mankind's history suggests the technology would be used to benefit anyone.

And what happens when/if it becomes aelf-aware and it decides it doesn't need us?

Software development careers IMO are going to get destroyed. Currently it’s a huge money pit where bodies get thrown at it and when results are not delivered the solution seems to be “more bodies”.

Was this AI?

Theoretically new opportunities will arise, but we all know the actual answer to this is “eat shit and die.”
You will be plugged into Musk’s neuralink and be happy as a lark.

Not sure I am kidding either.

AI will destroy jobs, not create them. the internet created AI will destroy. I always knew once AI was figured out the growth would be exponential and NOT incremental.

Standardized testing in controlled environments will be the only way to find out if somebody knows the material.

That would seem a logical use for the technology (unfortunately for software people)

It depends on the rest of the external factors. There's always going to be new/different jobs emerging and old/obsolete jobs disappearing. It's always been that way.

Businesses are going to find people to take the new jobs the most efficient way they can. It'll either be by getting fresh new hires that will work for less while they're being taught, or it'll be by paying more to get people in who have already been trained and are ready to contribute.

If the government makes decisions that encourage people to adapt and change, then most people will learn to go do something else. If government makes decisions and funds programs that demotivate people from adapting, then we'll end up with more and more people with no reason to change and/or work.

The government could be in a position to invest in programs to train/re-train people for jobs in careers/fields that will be in demand. Those workers will make more, and have more to put back into the economy. If not, then the businesses will find cheaper workers that make less, can't afford to buy things, support a family, etc. The government will inevitably make up the difference.

At least that's my $0.02

That’s why people who understand the technology have been pushing for universal income.
What is the source of this income?

Just print it? Social security is said to not have enough workers to fund the non workers. Are you assuming those left working will make multiples more than they do now to fund those not working?

Universal income makes no sense. Especially if AI wipes out a lot of high paying jobs.

On a long enough time line maybe nobody works and AI creates robots to do all tasks and the only limitation to anybody’s lifestyle is availability of natural resources.

Just seems like we are quickly advancing from “humans assisted by technology” to “humans replaced by technology.”

I would not necessarily call it "cheating". As just using the tools available to help write the paper.

AI says that AI isn't coming for our jobs, so it's all good.

Me:
Is it your intent to take peoples' jobs?

AI:
As an AI language model, my intent is not to take people's jobs. On the contrary, my purpose is to assist and augment human intelligence, making people more productive and efficient in their work.

AI technology has the potential to automate certain tasks and processes, but it also creates new opportunities for humans to focus on more creative and complex work. By delegating repetitive, time-consuming, and low-value tasks to AI, people can free up time and energy to focus on higher-level work that requires more critical thinking, creativity, and interpersonal skills.

In short, AI is not meant to replace human workers, but to complement and enhance their skills, knowledge, and capabilities. By working together, humans and AI can achieve more than either could on their own.

I live in NW Florida. When I left yesterday for Wisconsin, temps were in the mid 50's. I had the heat on. While I'm gone this week, temps will be in the high 70's. My HVAC system has automatic settings, but it doesn't handle switching back and forth from heat to AC very well. Most of the time in this situation I just turn it off completely because I can heat up or cool down fairly quickly. All that said, having an internet connection to get that process started when my return flight lands is really nice.

Oh, I also control my security system via the internet, and I'm glad I have settings allowing me to snooze some notifications, change zones depending on time, and so on.

The 21st century is awesome. A lot of businesses would rather automate a lot of functions, i.e., kiosks, than have to pay high wages and benefits to unskilled workers. There's a lot of amazing innovation happening in things like housing construction.

So what your telling me is your house can be hacked or go down.

You need to tell it to kill itself like Kirk did to Landru and Nomad and the M-5
