Another poster brought up the lack of Iowa players drafted by the Bears, so I looked it up and it has been forever since the Bears drafted a player from Iowa....have to go all the way back to 1983 and the selection of Mark Bortz since the Bears made a pick from Iowa that actually played a game with the team.

Here is the breakdown of Iowa Hawkeye Players Drafted by Midwest Teams in the Kirk Ferentz era:

Packers: A. Kampman, A. Hodge, B. Bulaga, M. Daniels, M. Hyde
Vikings: C. Greenway, C. Ballard, J. Johnson
Chiefs: T. Moeaki, R. Stanzi
Colts: D. Clark, B. Sanders, P. Angerer
Lions: A. Spievey, R. Reiff

Hawks should have at least 5 guys drafted this year: J. Jackson, J. Daniels, J. Jewell, A. Wadley & S. Welsh.

My best guess is that J. Jackson and J. Daniels go in the 1st round, Josey in the 4th, Akrum in the 5th and Welsh in the 6th. Also an outside shot for Ben Niemann to get drafted in the 7th.

Would be nice to see at least a couple of these guys drafted by some Midwest teams - come on Bears take Josey in the 4th round!!

I don't believe that the Hawks have ever had 2 1st round picks in the same draft under Ferentz, and have to go back to 1986 when Hawks had 3 guys taken in the 1st round (Long at 12 to the Lions, Harmon at 16 to the Bills and Haight at 22 to the Jets). Should make the Thursday Night Primetime 1st round even more interesting this year for Hawkeye fans - especially if Josh Jackson ends up going to the Packers at 14 and James Daniels ends up going to the Vikings at 30 in the 1st round.

So 15 Hawkeyes drafted by the Midwest teams in Kirk's era. That seems like a gracious plenty and maybe will be added to this year. Good post.

I'm so excited for this draft. Bears have a decent pick, potential for 2 Hawk first rounders, and ~4 other Hawks to be drafted.

Kirks is a good coach but unfortunately his best hawk performances tend to happen in April, not November or January. If he was hired just to help hawks make the NFL he's doing a fantastic job. Wish these NFL guys translated to more less than 5 loss seasons though....

I think Josey Jewell goes late 2nd early 3rd round , If He is still on the board in the 4th rd , lots of GMs should be getting fired. But that's just my opinion .
