Iowa Football: Hawkeyes hire former Wake Forest OC as senior analyst

wake forest has played some creative offense in recent years, the new gfh maybe a great addition.
So just so that i understand...Budmyer, who isn't qualified to coach at the high school level, is a position coach at the University of Iowa making huge money, and this highly successful Power 4 OC is only an analyst who can't coach on the field and will likely make around $50k?

Make that make sense. This guy is more qualified than any offensive coach Iowa has had since Ken O'Keefe. Brian must be laughing hysterically that he was a million dollar OC at Iowa without knowing the first thing about play calling...and this guy, who has called plays at an elite level, can only call for pizza on game days.

i believe the OCs at osu and nebby arrived initially as analysts, maybe there’s a plan for rugs as well. not oc obviously coz lester is good. in any case the new guy seems like a good addition and yeah i don’t know why we treasure budmayr

Was thinking back to Hayden's first year after enduring Bob Comming's run on first and second down, incomplete third down pass, then a punt. Hayden's first year was so exciting, he had more gadget plays to open things up. Fan's loved it.

Was hoping Lester would open things up. Maybe Ruggiero will bring more creativity. We'll see.

I don’t think Lester has a lack of creativity, I think he was just limited by the personnel available- QBs mostly

I really like the infusion of new blood on the offensive staff. This guy appears to bring a lot to the table and I have to assume that Lester's fully onboard with it if it wasn't his idea to bring him on in the first place.

This happens all the time in the real world. Budmayer is Kirk's guy. Justified or not, he isn't going anywhere as long as Kirk is at Iowa. Opportunity knocked and they were able to bring on a very knowledgeable resource to facilitate getting the worst passing offense in P4 back on track. Seems like an excellent hire.

This new guy is not gonna sit in some position coach spot anyway. He is not gonna be named the RB coach because his lifespan here will be short and move on. You want to find a RB coach that will be here 4 or 5 years.

If Brian did this, many would be like look Junior is bringing in this guy who really is the one who knows everything and will give him on the job training.

Agree. I doubt this guy is looking for a position job.

I hope he's able to speak at the Football Clinic this spring. Lester was very interesting last year.

Budmayr needs to be fired.

Actually if Brian did this it would definitely be to bring in someone that knows how to run a modern offense, because neither he nor Kirk had a clue. And then everyone would question why the hell would anybody give Brian the authority to hire anyone in the first place.

Correct. This is a one year hire until he finds another OC position.
Unless Kirk is planning on 2025 being His last Season and the OC will open up with Lester becoming the HC if it doesn't go to Wallace . Lots of possibilities and all start with what Kirk is planning which Nobody outside of Ft Kinnick knows. This is a no risk high reward move even if it is for only 1 Year .
