Shawn Beyer--in his first track meet of the year, high jump: 6'5" and Long jump: 21' 6"

Dalles Jacobus--also in his first track meet of the year, Shot put: 57' 1"

I know that Ferentz likes those kids the are multi-sport participants. I am sure that we have some of our skilled guys that are burning up the track. Would be interested to see some of their times.

This would be a good thread to keep going thru the spring. Always interested in our multi-sport prospects. Thanks.

Riley Reiff won the police chase decathlon his freshman year ......
sprinted 400 meters, javelin ejected his beer bottle, hurdled a series of fences, long jumped a construction site hole, shot putted his jacket and shirt, and high jumped a wall well ahead of the foot patrol.....but alas it was the 1500 meter run that did him in as he ran out of gas a mere 200 meters from his dorm room. Despite the late stage fatigue, NFL scouts noticed.

But seriously, it is interesting and sort of amazing to read the multi-sport accomplishments of Hawkeye recruits, especially track and field. The one story that sticks in my memory is former LB Tyler Nielsen who ran a sub :50 400 meters in HS at 6ft4 and 220 lbs - that my friends is freakish.

UNI recruit from West Burlington high jumped 6-10. Recruited as wr or athlete.

Just saw Tyler this past week working at John Deere in Humboldt. His grandpa owns quite a few John Deere dealerships across the state so I'm sure Tyler has a pretty nice road ahead of him.

He was a pretty good basketball player too. I remember going to one of his games in Webster City. Was throwin down some pretty impressive dunks.

Guys like this are just natural athletes and succeed in just about any sport they participate. Football, basketball, track .... it wouldn't surprise me at all if he played baseball and threw a wicked fastball and had batting power to all fields. Athletes like this are rare.

I highly doubt if any Iowa athlete his size had previously broke :50 in the 400. It might be some time before it happens again.

Kristian Welch long jumped 22 ft 11.5 inch at his first track meet of the year at UWSP in Wisconsin. Also he ran a 6.7sec 55m dash.

Now that is really impressive.

Is Dalles Jacobus a walk on ? Thanks in advance. Go Hawks

IIRC Pat Angerer was fast enough to be in the finals of the Drake Relays 100 meters. Not bad for a middle LB. Andy Brodell was seriously fast as a junior, before beefing up to be a Hawk. Won the Relays 100 meters going away as a junior. Scherff was obviously a freak and won either the discuss or shot at Drake.

The one that still blows me away is Klinkenborg. Threw a complete game as pitcher for his H.S. baseball team as a right hander. Then, since it was a double-header, he put on the other glove and threw the 2nd game as a lefty. Norm was in attendance. Scholarship offered on the spot.

Jared DeVries was no slouch at the State Track meet as I recall he was AP's anchor leg to a few relays that placed.

Eppy is just a freak athlete. I hope the staff finds a way to get him on the field early and often. Hopefully, not just special teams as a freshman.

I wish Drake would offer a spot to AJ being that he is one of, if not the, best thrower in the nation and right in our back yard. I would go watch him throw if that was the case. 202 for a HS Junior is stupid impressive and cant wait to see this kid in the black and yellow in 2 years.

thread is about track results, just pointing out the kid had some impressive numbers

While 4 eyed cy continues to ignore the kid had no meaningful rankings for football. No wonder isu is always looking up at the Hawks. Maybe isu's track team should recruit him.

State Qualifying Meet in Marshalltown:

Shawn Beyer---4 events, 4 first places, qualified in all four. High Jump 6'2". Long Jump 22'5". 110M High Hurdles 14.86sec. Anchored the shuttle hurdle relay to the win.

Dalles Jacobus--won the shot put 57'3". Second in discus 162'7"

Spencer Williams (Cedar Falls) was 3rd in the shot but not sure of his distance, but it was above 51'

Shawn Beyer got 1st place and qualified for state with a 6'2" high jump...way too many white boys in Iowa lol When I was high jumping in Illinois (1983) we needed to clear 6'4" to qualify for state.
