Iowa Has more 4 Star recruits than Wisconsin

There is certainly an improvement in recruiting last 2 years and for 2019, but Wisconsin always has strong teams with subpar recruiting. I think/hope Iowa will improve a lot when these guys see the field, but Im not banking on Wisconsin getting any worse. Hopefully we can close the gap

With a great start to the 2019 class already, a good season next year could make that a great class as well. New facilities, put a few really good seasons in the books and the recruiting should improve. It doesn't hurt that Iowa is still considered a great O line school, now also considered a great DB school. I have been beat up over saying this, but I think Brian is going to be a good OC.

I think this is a good sign for years to come.
Ummm ... doesn't matter. What they bring to the table when they actually hit the gridiron in college ... that's what actually matters. Also, I hope it goes without saying ... what they do OFF the field matters just as much. Kyle Williams was a 5-star recruit ... one of the first things he did once he hit campus was to steal from a teammate. The leadership council promptly booted him from the team ... not surprisingly, he ultimately found his way to jail.

What do ya'll think of this theory:

What is most motivating to KF right now, is to have a strong next 3-5 years. Then retire.

Because, if the next 3-5 years are bad, nobody's gonna want BF to be the next head coach.

If those 3-5 years are good however.... Then next Hawkeye Head Coach = BF.

This has motivated KF to take it up a notch, on the recruiting trail.

Any thoughts on this theory, would be appreciated.

The main difference between Iowa and Wisconsin this decade has been the Badgers have a bit more oomph in terms of impact skill position players and overall speed on the defense. That is something you don't turn around overnight, but the last couple of classes will put Iowa in a position to better compete. Wisconsin has it rolling right now, and everyone in the West is trying to get to their standard.

This is a big question that I've pondered quite a bit. How much of the "gap" between Wisconsin and Iowa is real ... and how much of it is perceived?

The "Alvarez factor" is an ingredient and ballast that Wisconsin has that Iowa lacks. Kirk is a coach ... and there are always factors swirling about Kirk relating to him being "outdated" or "overpaid" or encouraging "nepotism." Those factors can potentially infiltrate the locker-room and influence the players. However, Barry Alvarez is simultaneously a CEO of the Badger program ... which is the designation that a head coach usually has ... AND he's essentially a living legend for the program.

Consequently, my "vibe" is that it is harder for Wisconsin players to undercut the philosophy of the program because it really has become institutionalized.

Perhaps due to a larger population base ... I'd guess that the quality of the Wisconsin OLs have been even more steady that Iowa's. This also traditionally has allowed Wisconsin to recruit RBs at a higher level more consistently than Iowa too.

Apart from the aforementioned features ... Wisconsin found a defensive scheme that really matched their personnel. And, in recent years, the Wisconsin D is playing at a higher level than they've been historically known for playing.

Where is Iowa sitting now? It's hard to tell because we just changed our O. I think that it is safe to say that the change in the O constituted a legitimate "transition" for the Hawks. However, all the same, Iowa was engaged in a bunch of close games ... much like the 2008 season ... Iowa was on the losing end of most of those close games. What happens when Iowa more consistently WINS those games? Do we see more of a reprise of the '02, '04, or '09 Hawks? What happens when we have easier schedules ... do we see a reprise of the '15 season?

This maybe the idea up on the hill. However, I wish the motivation was to be highly competitive every year. I know I'll get lit up for that but eemsblike there has been a bit to much complacency mixed in over the years from a recruiting standpoint. Of course therefore many factor contributing to success. Keeping expectations high and the good ole boy staff accountable is our job as fans. Maybe that will help keep the focus on great recruiting and onfield success even after BF becomes HC if that happens.

Actually I would say about the last 4 years Wisconsin has been recruiting pretty well.
