Annual Dvorak Wrestling Tournament starts today, with future Hawkeyes in action. Nelson Brands, ICW gets the #2 seed at 160 lbs. #1 seed goes to Danny Braunagel, Belleville, Alhtoff Catholic. I think Brands wins this tournament.

Top seed in the heavyweight division goes to Anthony Cassioppi, Rockton, Hononegah. This is a very tough/competitive tournament, but Cassioppi will pin all to take tournament. Anyone familiar with Graham Gambrall, 132 lbs. from ICW? He has a very tough draw-second round, Pucino, Libertyville. Pucino a kid to watch, only a sophomore.

What Braunagel's resume look like? Or is this a case of instate home cooking the seeds? Something tells me Papa Bear can answer this.

Graham is Grants little brother. The Braunagels have really gotten better the last two years. Danny was State champ at 52' whilst Zach won 170

Danny Pucino (LIBERTYVILLE) 16-2 won by major decision over Graham Gambrall (Iowa City (WEST) (IA)) 19-8 (MD 19-5)

Pacino is the training partner of Gunther's little brother Michael.
Very strong and athletic kid that reminds me of Pantelo from Michigan.

Pucino sounds like an aggressive big tank wrestler from what I read about him, just the kind of kid Iowa likes. I'm sure with Guther's bro there they have him on radar.

Anthony Cassioppi (Rockton (HONONEGAH)) 17-0 won by fall over Wyatt Blake (Crystal Lake (CENTRAL)) 6-7 (Fall 1:24)

speaking of little brothers...

  • Giovanni Cassioppi (Rockton (HONONEGAH)) 14-2 won by tech fall over Will Zupanci (EDWARDVILLE (HS)) 9-9 (TF-1.5 4:48 (15-0))

I can't wait for Bruno and Rocco. :)

Brands by fall 2:21.

Pucino by TF 23-7.

Young Gunther had to default out.

Is he as good as his bigger twin? I’ve seen him quite a bit and he’s a goer.
No Danny is the smaller twin. Still very good though, he won state last year and was a runner up the year before in class 1A which is the little schools. Nationally though he took 5th at Fargo in freestyle as a cadet, took 7th at flo this last year and also took 6th at super 32

Nelson should dominate his semis but the kid he's facing did just major a kid who took 4th last year in 3A which is the biggest schools. The kid gives a lot of people problems with his top wrestling and is a very good scrambler

Track is showing Ferrante lost. Very odd result has him being majored by Swanson.

Yeah that's what I'm saying Swanson just majored ferrante who took 4th last year. I've seen Swanson wrestle and he gives a lot of people problems with his top wrestling and he scrambles a lot

Brands loses. Got ridden a bunch it looks like. 10-6 score. Maybe 3 stall points in the third on bottom.

Track has brands losing 10-6 that's concerning, Swanson is good but he hasn't even placed in state yet

Based on the summary Swanson had the only two tds. Brands had a couple reversals but ended up on bottom one too many times. I think it was understood he has had a bit of trouble at times on bottom. Losing the TD game is more surprising.

Nelsons' TRex stance needs some tightening maybe.
Cass pulled a Stoll with 5 penalty points to get the TF in the 3rd

Watched Brands match; opinion from matside, he has got some work to do, he was not athletic enough to go with Swanson.Cassioppi will stick Snow ICW in first period.

Yikes on Brands. That's very concerning.

Wyatt Blake was recruited by the Iowa football team. Can't remember where he ended up, maybe Northwestern.

It was understood but no one wanted to talk about it until now.

He was so overhyped on this board it was funny. He hasn't done anything Nationally to prove hyping him up other than kissing his dad a$$ by doing it! Just not athletic enough. As for his stance, the only one to blame that on is his coach (dad). He will have a career at Iowa like Tom Ryan son at Ohio State. Tough to follow in your dad foot steps.
