Iowa Hawkeyes represented In Dvorak Tournament

As of now, (and I know we will get more), The University of Iowa has 3 wrestling recruits for next year, one top 20, one Top 50 and one State of Iowa placewinner. No top guys left. We have a glaring hole at 133 that I can’t see how we fill by next year. Should not happen this way to a top program.

OK, I was correct then. Big motor, still needs work. He does improves rapidly though. Just a few years ago he looked like he just stepped on a wrestling mat for the first time.

He was so overhyped on this board it was funny. He hasn't done anything Nationally to prove hyping him up other than kissing his dad a$$ by doing it! Just not athletic enough. As for his stance, the only one to blame that on is his coach (dad). He will have a career at Iowa like Tom Ryan son at Ohio State. Tough to follow in your dad foot steps.

Terry stays out of it unless his son asks him questions. He is not his “coach.” Nelson didn’t qualify for State his freshman year, he was late to the party. Think he started in the 7th grade...won it the next two years and will probably win it again. His Dad was only a two timer...both bros had a lot of rough edges coming into college but they made a leap in the room. At worst, Nelson will be a tough guy to wrestle in the room and will not start until his RS Soph or Jr year. At best, he makes that leap in the room like his Dad and Uncle did. Either way, he is costing us 0 against our 9.9.

See you found something to be negative about again. Hadn’t heard from you in a while. When things start turning around you won’t be able to post here at all. Expect the negative posts from psu fans.

Amazing that some of you seemingly take joy in bashing a HS kid when he loses.

Agreed, I don't think anyone criticizing his bottim game are bashing, but you gotta get out. He'll improve.

I love watching Nelson wrestle. His finals match at state, states for our east coast friends, against Austin Yant was one of the best of the night. The fur was flying. Austin's brother is my son's best friend so I wanted Yant, but it was fun to watch.

A little work with Gilman and his Jedi bottom skills and he'll have kids falling off his back from exhaustion.

Brands wrestled Lara in the finals. Yant was earlier in the tournament (QFs maybe?). Either way, both the matches with Yant and Lara were entertaining.

Sad people pile on a high school kid. I don't care if a "Brands" or not. Just sickening. So he lost. Fine. What I care about is Nelson getting up. And being better. Last I looked he wasn't stepping on the mat this year or next. Jesus he is in high school got a later start (which was awesome of Terry) and won't wear the singlet of black and gold for a few years.

Whatever. I like Nelson and think he is going to be a real good college wrestler. We just need more and better recruits. Sorry it’s not all roses for you bro. Let some of us have our opinions without always trying to argue. You can keep try to be the controlling voice on here though. As much as you creep on the wrestlers, you must have lots of time.

I have noticed when he loses there is no dropping his head. He just comes back determined to get better. I honestly don't think he looks like a real big 160 pounder. People have mentioned 174. I don't in any way see that right now. He would have to walk around at 185-190 to be a good sized 174. I think he is a 157, maybe 165.

Was it Terry who wasn’t allowed to wrestle his senior year of high school or Tom?

Do you know this for a fact?
For the record I have no problem with iowa recruiting him or giving him some scholly money. He's a two timer with a high ceiling, but at this point he shouldn't be losing to non place winners.

How did Nelson finish up? I assume he got 3rd, but I can't find the results anywhere. Even the illinois Matmen site only has champs and semis results and team scores.

Trackwrestling has everything. Just type in Dvorak after clicking "search events"

Brands in consolation rounds:

Won by TF vs Vandenbush
Won by dec vs Sizemore, and finishes 3rd

Thanks. I ended up searching a few sites and found it. The kid he beat for 3rd seems to have been pretty descent. Or is that decent?

But you do agree with him right?

Brands isn't going to count against Iowa's 9.9. Anything he contributes is value add. My bet is he becomes a 2-3 year solid starter.

Meanwhile PSU gave good money to Teske who has limited national experience and recently got thumped by a guy outside the top 100, committed to Cleveland State.

In a perfect world, these things would matter. Given the phenomenal recruiting PSU has had now for many years, coupled with rumors of creative financing (summer camps, offers of later paid jobs at nlwc, etc), I'm not sure money for scholarships is really an issue for PSU.
