Former Patriot Assistant. Lots of NFL experience. First Lester, now Young. Both NFL guys with NFL schemes. Iowa seems to be going all in on an NFL style offense.

results will have to speak about merits of this hire. if he can produce a better rushing game than we had last season i'll grudginly admit he good. :)

Our rushing game was impressive last year. The passing game is the issue.

If we get close to equaling the rushing game last (minus Johnson) I will be happy.

This is an odd and disappointing choice.

The guy has coached at 6 different places in the past 6 years (what are the odds he sticks around at Iowa more than 1 yr?) and has zero recruiting pipeline because he's been job hopping as an "analyst" in the NFL the past 4 years. Also, zero ties to Iowa when there are plenty of ex Hawks out there dying to coach at Iowa.

Questionable hire.

I noticed the same thing right away. Especially that which pertains to recruiting. Why hire a guy with ZERO recruiting experience?

You're a tough sell aren't you? The rushing game was good last year, especially considered it was basically the same parts from the darkest era in Iowa football offensive history.

i was just trying (unsuccessfully) to be funny. rushing was good last year and i tip my hat to kaleb for that. and if the rushing offense under oy does better i’ll eat my hat

Why the hell does it matter that he has zero Iowa ties? Lol. What a dumb criteria.

He has worked in college before he doesn't have zero recruiting experience. He was RB coach at Eastern Illinois and had support staff roles at South Carolina, Colorado, and San Jose State. Ladell had never coached above high school before Iowa and he wound up being a great recruiter.

Gotta love all the amateur coaches on here🤣

I'm cautiously optimistic that our offense will take another step forward this year. Looking for a more balanced attack, no as run heavy.

Anyone who has an issue with the hire can take it up with Lester. He ran the process from start to finish and picked Omar. KF simply rubber stamped after Lester picked him.
So you are saying Lester runs the offense… that is going to piss off the KF haters

Still not convinced about Lester's true autonomy.
I do think, IF left to his own devices, Lester is a net positive to the program.
A couple recent hires appear to be plusses.
Time will tell.

Why was this guy let go at New England?
Was this a Bill Bilicheck guy?
Was he a part of the group that Kirk already has a relationship with?
What does he know about recruiting?

I'm not sure I like this hire... yet. I will certainly give the man a chance.

He wasn't with Belichick. He got hired by Mayo and then Mayo got fired. It's also not really uncommon for guys in the kind of role he had to jump around a lot though. Lester got his name from people who had worked with him in Green Bay, I believe.

As noted above he's worked in college before he's not new to recruiting. Much more experience than Ladell had in that respect.

My bad. I didn't read the whole thing. I jumped to the end. Thanks for the clarification.

I think NFL experience is more important than having been a Hawk, if they are both then people will have an issue with them being hired mostly based on having been a past player. Can't please everyone. Not opposed to former players but this hire might be real good.

No KJ this year, if the running game is productive while the passing game gets established I'll be happy. Lester's scheme is a big factor in giving the O the advantage against most defenses.

Ladell had never been involved with recruiting until he came to Iowa, yet he did an excellent job.

You guys act like you haven't been paying attention to Hawkeye football in the last 25 or 30 years. You can insert about anybody in the assistant coach ranks. I'm still not sold on Lester yet and some of you guys think he hung the Moon. But it doesn't really matter because KF is running the joint.

Some have mentioned within this thread about the wide receiver game... Yes indeed , we need to see improvements , yes.

we need game changers (at least 2) at the WR position to make that part of the game something opponents have to worry about.

If you look at about any D-1 coach’s resume most have stops at many different jobs (pro and college). It is how they get connected. Not unusual—-part of the business.
