I’m trying to figure out how DePaul is still unranked. Sitting at 12-1 with quality wins @Iowa, TTU, @MINN, @BC.

Very poor overall SOS would be my guess.

Their SOS is ranked #240 by KenPom and #247 by Sagarin.

This more proves the negative impact of playing weak teams than wins vs quality teams. Simple as that.

So none of the computer or human metrics have them Top 25 but you think they should be? Again, what is that based on?

The coaches look at SOS just as much as the computers do.
They aren’t watching every game.
Many likely aren’t looking at scores and prior wins.
Many coaches probably aren’t even completing their own ballot.

Playing the 275th ranked team damages your resume much more than beating a top 25 team improves it. Much larger negative deviation than positive due to how many schools there are.

Luckily DePaul will have their day in court as they play in the Big East and have more quality opponents upcoming. Although I would argue they’ve already proven enough upside consistency by beating the teams previously mentioned. Hell, I would actually rank them above Iowa as it stands today. But I would also put Iowa over TTU.

I never referenced the coaches poll. I only talked about the AP, Sagarin, KenPom and NET.

AP voters aren’t looking at anything different than the coaches. I would argue they rely even more on overall SOS statistics than even the coaches. The reality is that the majority of voters are looking at broadstroke statistics, not specific game information. Again, MUCH more downside deviation in playing bad teams than upside in playing good teams when you are trying to break into the Top 25.

So safe for me to assume you have watched most all of Depaul's games and the teams you are comparing them against to think they are Top 25?

I’ve watched their wins vs quality opponents (mentioned above), including their SHLACKING of Iowa, at Carver.

If Texas Tech is ranked, whom DePaul also beat it is safe to say it is a lot of BS but just glad Iowa is in for fun/exposure.
Texas Tech beat Louisville, who was #1 recently. But that does probably make Tech Iowa’s biggest national win to date.

Thats not how it works really but ok.

how can you possibly say that broad statement? They are 12-1. Yes they’ve played some tier 3-4 opponents and have taken care of business with the exception of one. That said, there are many top 25 teams who have lost to tier 2-3-4 opponents as anomalies. It happens.

The reality is that they have beaten now two top 25 teams, one handily on the road. What makes you say they should be ranked below those two teams at 12-1??? If they were 10-3 or even 11-2 I would agree with you. But not at 12-1.

What would DePaul's record be with Iowa's schedule?

They have squeaked by some bad teams in Northwestern, BC and Cleveland. There is literally no metric to support your argument other than your eye test.

Other then they motor boated the team you mentions schedule at their place and beat the team who beat #1 there is plenty to argue the other way.

Considering they beat @Iowa, TTU, and @MINN, I feel safe to say they would be at least 9-3 matching the hawks. Nothing in their schedule says otherwise worse. Prove me wrong.

According to Sagarin, they would be underdogs in 4 or 5 games so far using Iowa's schedule, not counting the games against Iowa, TTU and Minnesota since they won those games head to head.

UM and SDSU would be between 6 and 8 point favorites. ISU, Syracuse and Cincinnati would be slight favorites against DePaul or pick ems.

2/25/19 - 22nd

Made it all the way to #14 last year. Iowa was ranked a majority of last season.
I guess I forgot about that. The roller coaster of wins and losses made me think they were never ranked. Seems like they had some tough seasons since the Woodbury and Co. era but I do stand corrected.

Needless to say, in my opinion, this is the best squad Iowa has put together in years. This season is still to be determined but if Garza sticks around for next year, I can see this team making it to at least the sweet 16.

Ok that is one computer model, which YET AGAIN, is punishing them for playing weak OOC. Games are played on the hardwood not on inside computer chips. They are 12-1 and beat two teams ranked above them, handily.

Handily? They beat TTU in overtime. And they also struggled to beat 3 teams ranked way below them (Cleveland, Northwestern, BC).

Same I do not remember being ranked last season LOL, ups and downs but an enjoyable NCAA showing at least. That TENN 2nd half was so freaking awesome even though they lost. Still have it on DVR.
