Iowa is #4 in this weeks AP poll

What I find amusing from that is Virginia and North Carolina at 15 and 16 are the highest rated ACC Schools :)

Less amused that there are 4 Big12 schools in the Top 10
Texas beat UNC by 2, we controlled the UNC game from tip to finish.

Wow this board is asleep on Purdue. They are WAY better than getting credit for, an only getting better.

Vegas had them a 5.5 point favorite over Notre Dame. That tells you something

Not me. Concerned although Notre Dame is a meh.

Illinois crapped the bed twice in the last 10 days. They are very good, just not consistent enough but I bet they hound the hell out of our guards.

Opened at Iowa -8 vs Purdue, down to -6 FWIW.
Too much, should be around -2.5 just because it's at Iowa....Purdue has one advantage over Iowa and it's Painter. He just seems to have Frans number.
No more hockey line changes, work the ball inside out, wear out their front line. It appears that any team that has 3 point shooters can go off on Iowa during any game, identify their hot shooters and put a body on them. Hopefully Iowa won't allow Purdue to out hustle us like last year. Garza, Garza, Garza, Garza. Iowa has to understand it's strength....

Yes to this, feed the beast, foul out their BIGs and just make our % from 3/FTs and should win IF we go Garza first.

From tip to finish? There was that whole part of the game where they erased like an 18 point deficit and took the lead for a short time.
Yes we still controlled the game though. And were quickly up by double digits. I wasn't really concerned at any point in the game, were you?

Kind of surprised NW isn’t in top 25. One loss (1 point loss to a decent Pitt team) and a top 10 win against blue blood MSU.

And like not even close to the top 25.. I would say writers had their polls done early but MSU did take a big hit so yeah it’s strange.

Carolina is an large, athletic team, who--fortunately for the Hawks--doesn't shoot well from the perimeter. As we saw this weekend, if a team has all three, it will cause us major problems.

Iowa played like trash on Saturday. Needed to get Garza the ball more and made 4 3s and missed a ton of fts. Lots to take away from that game to get much better but it'll take hard work.

Gotta beat Purdue. Don't care if it's by 1 or 31. Iowa struggles with them way too much, and it's aggravating because most of the time the Boilers aren't anything special.

I interpret those polls as a national recognition that we shot poorly from the line and from 3 more so than Gonzaga beat us...the Hawks have some national respect.

IF we beat Purdue we’re one game up on Illinois and MSU in the title race and keep pace with Wisconsin and Rutgers (I think they’re a legitimate contender).....gotta win games. Period

Our shooting was so bad though, free throws and three point, if we would have been shooting even average we could have very well beaten Gonzaga.
If we would have been on fire like them we would have won by double digits.

Bad and uncharacteristic turnovers/passing by us too.

Couple tough losses, but I think we’re a great example of how the polls work in funky ways. The two teams we lost to - Mizzou and Rutgers - enjoyed jumps of 17 and 8 spots, respectively for each beating us by 3 on their home courts. Meanwhile, we dropped from #6 to #13 (in a week where we also pounded Duke, who the pollsters have kept in the top 20) and then from #13 to #18 after a close loss to #19 Rutgers, who is now judged as a borderline top 10 team?

Haha, I’m not really complaining, because we have three losses ... but they’re to #2, #11 and #14, with beating us being the only main achievement for any of those teams. It seems you’d either not bump up those teams much because we’re overrated or consider those good losses for us but not both? Like I said, we have to win to stay up there, so I get it. It’s just kind of strange when one thinks about it.

Conference title contenders win games like the one against Rutgers. Score 88 points, shoot 54% from the field and LOSE?! Good Lord!

Illinois is not a legit contender right now. Sweet sixteen ceiling, imo. Your freshman guards will improve but I just don’t see the toughness and quality depth teams need to win conference championships and go deep in the tourney.

Things might change by March but.... you were way overrated.

I disagree with this. Illinois is an excellent basketball team w/ 2 major, major talents and a supporting cast that can go off at any time. They are very much a contender. We have to show that we are, too. We need both of these games this week.

More of a reflection of how they view MI State now. The win against Duke looks less impressive now, and they squeaked by Detroit.

Okay, then don’t sky rocket the teams who barely beat us up in the polls, bro. Which is all I was saying.
