"Iowa is for us, our field of dreams, our piece of heaven." --Frank Garza

Watching Garza interact with his teammates and his dad interact with fans, you can tell they really love Iowa. They seem like incredible people.

For more reasons than just his talent, I am proud that Garza is a Hawkeye.

I like him because he's tough and plays with heart.

I sure hope we get to see him in the black and gold for one more season.

Agree 100%. I would feel the same way about him if he had half the success he does now.
He gives everything he's got every time. You can't ask for anything better than that.

Er, Is Maggie Mynderse half as good in basketball as Megan Gustafson? For the sake of Iowa basketball's future...

Seems pretty clear that Luka has some big dreams. Perhaps bigger than being a college basketball star. If his goal is merely to get to the NBA, no reason not to leave after this season.

You guys should probably read up on Frank j. Garza Jr. before hitching your wagon to him.
I think he made some mistakes in the dot com gold rush, as many did. As a young man, I can see how that world would make the guy feel invincible. I’ve heard some crazy stories about that time in NYC. I’m guessing it wasn’t so different out west.

Has there been anything else? Not to my knowledge. He paid his dues, time to move on.

He did his time in prison and seems to be having a great life now and i love how much he supports luka. Simmer down guy

Thanks for bringing your worthless crap over here again. His son is doing a great job at Iowa and you're trying to bring crap to this site because you're envious of his hard work and accomplishment of Luka..Just find a new name and post on some other site. Tks..

Thousands lost in the Telcom boom. Plenty in Iowa. McCleod probably sounds familiar to some. Over 15,000 miles in abandoned fiber optics, among things... 1000s lost everything. I know lots, several of them family....

Got to watch bubbles. What goes up too quickly, almost always goes down faster.... Financial, Telcom, internet, financial again, real estate. Bubbles happen. There's a good one going on right now.

So, I just googled him and read the story from the East Bay times from 2007. Um ... oh. Well, uh, okay, so ... yeah. Why'd you have to bring reality into this thread, damnit?! *yikes*

That's not what happened at all. He took the money, didn't invest it and used it for himself. It was a straight up scam and theft.

Super happy for the success of Luka but the fact that local media is lionizing the guy is kind of hilarious.

You know what's sadly hilarious? That we have a guy 100 times, nay, a 1,000 times worse who is the alleged "president of the United States." Ya wanna worry and complain and ridicule somebody, you should start right there at the top, not with the mere father of a college basketball player.

And ya wanna hear something truly mind-boggling? Millions of people claim they'll vote for the guy again! America oughta be able to run a lab rat against him and win the November election in a landslide, but no . . . the cult that is ruining this country continues unabated.

I'll take Frank Garza, who didn't have the US Senate as his judge and jury, over the so-called president every day of the week.

X100. Trump is an absolute joke. If you’re ragging on this guy for failing in 2007 and losing some people some $$ you better be protesting Trump damn near everyday

Nobody cares about politics on the Bball board. Take that and your lame political signature back to HROT.

Aren't there more Dems than Reps in the country? Doesn't that say more about the Dem's candidates than Trump? They are less electable than lab rats?

Who is 'lionizing' him or 'hitching their wagon' to him. Hawk fans like what he says about Iowa and like his son. If you find that 'hilarious,' you have an odd humor threshold. What is really odd is your dredging up old news in attempt to make yourself look better.

You can take your TDS infected *ss over to the off topic board. It's pretty obvious in your posts that you daily obsess over this. It's not healthy, I suggest a therapist.

I love Garza and think he and his family will always have a special place in Iowa sports history. That being said, after reading the history of Frank Garza in the early 2000s, it’s very clear he has a checkered past. There is no good excuse for what he did to people.
What I hope happened is that Frank Garza paid his dues and is now a law abiding productive citizen of our society. The guy is for sure a “go getter”. He has built several businesses (some apparently not legal) and has trained his son to be a completely dominating college basketball player. Let’s hope that he learned from his lessons and uses is obvious talents for good from here on out.
What happened with Frank Garza in the past has nothing to do with Luka Garza as a college player and I will continue to enjoy his season.

Lastly, why would you introduce politics into any of this? There is a perfect board to start a topic about this. The basketball board is not it.
