"Iowa is for us, our field of dreams, our piece of heaven." --Frank Garza

I love Garza and think he and his family will always have a special place in Iowa sports history. That being said, after reading the history of Frank Garza in the early 2000s, it’s very clear he has a checkered past. There is no good excuse for what he did to people.
What I hope happened is that Frank Garza paid his dues and is now a law abiding productive citizen of our society. The guy is for sure a “go getter”. He has built several businesses (some apparently not legal) and has trained his son to be a completely dominating college basketball player. Let’s hope that he learned from his lessons and uses is obvious talents for good from here on out.
What happened with Frank Garza in the past has nothing to do with Luka Garza as a college player and I will continue to enjoy his season.

Lastly, why would you introduce politics into any of this? There is a perfect board to start a topic about this. The basketball board is not it.

Agree can't condone what Frank did in his past. However how many players dad's/parents over the years have done bad things that we never knew about let alone the absentee ones. In my opinion it's a moot point.

All I know is Luka speaks highly about his Dad. Says how they are best friends and have a phenomenal relationship on and off the court. Frank became popular with being mic'd up during the tourney but he's a super positive guy during the games and as Luka says always a popular guy when he walks into the room. Basically the anti Lavar Ball.

You know what's sadly hilarious? That we have a guy 100 times, nay, a 1,000 times worse who is the alleged "president of the United States." Ya wanna worry and complain and ridicule somebody, you should start right there at the top, not with the mere father of a college basketball player.

And ya wanna hear something truly mind-boggling? Millions of people claim they'll vote for the guy again! America oughta be able to run a lab rat against him and win the November election in a landslide, but no . . . the cult that is ruining this country continues unabated.

I'll take Frank Garza, who didn't have the US Senate as his judge and jury, over the so-called president every day of the week.
Please take your political bs somewhere else! How does Frank Garza have anything to do with your hostile and IMO lacking knowledge of politics. You probably should read history and economics 101 before the next election.

Thousands lost in the Telcom boom. Plenty in Iowa. McCleod probably sounds familiar to some. Over 15,000 miles in abandoned fiber optics, among things... 1000s lost everything. I know lots, several of them family....

Got to watch bubbles. What goes up too quickly, almost always goes down faster.... Financial, Telcom, internet, financial again, real estate. Bubbles happen. There's a good one going on right now.

Didn't lose everything, but did lose more than a bit of skin. Was angry at McLeod at the time, but moved on and recovered. I did learn one valuable lesson for me...never invest in any business I do not fully understand.

Way to go off topic, so exactly what has Trump scammed people out of? Please post it

Get lost.

Merely presented the information i read. I love Luka, and believe people can change but when someone says that Frank’s an incredible person it’s tough to hold your tongue. The news certainly stunned me and shouldn’t be chalked up as a small crime. He paid his dues yes, but I wouldn’t tie him to our program as some beacon of character.

Take your stupid ass political post to the OT board.

Watching Garza interact with his teammates and his dad interact with fans, you can tell they really love Iowa. They seem like incredible people.

For more reasons than just his talent, I am proud that Garza is a Hawkeye.

Last year, at the Las Vegas tournament, we stayed and watched the first half of the second game after Iowa beat Texas Tech. Most of the players and their families were hanging out/talking behind the open end basket and portable stands (which was near the Iowa locker room).

We ended up leaving that game and there’s set of escalators and then a long hallway that connects the casino to the gym. Walking back in to the gym is Frank and a lady. Frank sees us and says “Go Hawks!” I said “Go Hawks” back and something corny, like Luka’s the man or we love Luka. I hear Frank tell the lady he’s with, “where ever you go, you’ll hear Go Hawks”. He’s right, but I thought it was a little odd since we were all there for a Hawkeye function. Garza had a lot of family out there for that tournament. Probably 30-40 family members. Frank was hanging out mostly behind the Iowa bench, but he was always interacting with a fan. Seemed like a pretty nice guy.
