IOWA KenPom Defensive efficiency now at #162

Very well said. Our starting 5 has been extremely ineffective at the outset of games, especially Bohannon. He’s going entire 1st halves without taking a shot. If Fran was going to bring him back as the 2 and start him he needs to shoot the ball. If he’s going to play 10 minutes and go 0-1 he’s more of a liability than Connor. He should come in with the 2nd team and have the mindset of absolutely looking for his shot. Instant offense. He honestly just doesn’t even seem interested this year.

On Hawk Talk the other night Frans reasoning behind JBo being slow was simply that teams are face guarding him, and physically beating him up. I’m not the biggest JBo fan but one thing I will say is he shows grit and fights to get open, he’s just not always physically capable (more times than not).. if that’s the case 1) set multiple screens. 2) bring him off the bench after some up and downs, to bring fresh legs. 3) Have him start taking acting class, so he can sell more hand checks, cheap ass fouls that teams like Wiscy or Illinois are notorious for. They are tough teams and play tough D, JBo needs to adapt to situations. First and foremost though we need rebounding and defense to set the tone. Put the guys most willing to do that on the floor.

Guys have been doing this to him for years. It’s nothing new. At this point he’s not physically able to do what he used to do, which is why he needs to be a spot player.

Yeah I hate getting the same excuses. We need to raise our defense to create more of an equilibrium with our O. We all talk about D and Rebounds even Fran does, but he neglects the fact his personnel is part of the issues. He defends them, because he recruited them, so although he is outwardly empathetic to his guys, he’s really just doesn’t want to change his ways because fear and stubbornness. Many reasons. That’s what I think

I wonder if there's a correlation with men aging and their stubborness/not willing to change or adapt - maybe something to do with their brain plasticity.

He needs a post presence and if he's not shooting he needs to sit as he provides NOTHING else except FT's.

Same with Connor, bench them both.
