Iowa lands a transfer out of the portal!

How does the 'portal' work for walk ons? Are they ever technically in it in the first place since there's no scholarship to be released from?

I remember when Jerry Kill was coaching the minnesota football team and a walk on kid from Wisconsin announced his intention to leave and blogged about his departure. Jerry Kill really got aggressive with him and made a lot of threats and claimed he was going to derail his career and block his transfer. The kid basically said blow me, and called him a complete moron, as he was a walk on not bound by scholarship rules and could do whatever the hell he wanted, and didnt have to sit out a year to do it.

Glad to get back a major contributer for this year and a potential all Big Ten player. Can't wait to see him in an actual game and not in practice highlights. Not sure why he couldn't find a place to play in the transfer portal. Apparently none of the coaches in NCAA know as much as some posters on here. By the way there's a lot of sarcasm in this post.

Really strange. Do we not have a scholarship to give?

This is awesome. Hopefully it means he got some help with the expenses for out of state tuition. Fran gave him a shot when many didnt. Interesting to know if the initial reason was due to missing an invite to Europe or what caused the interesting timing. Perhaps simply paying bills for dorms and everything came in around the same time. Whatever the reason hopeful its all settled, and he's locked in on earning some playing time.

So all the other walkons got to go but Fran excluded one and that upset AM so much he decided to switch schools?

Yeah that makes sense.

Kid has never done a thing at any level of CBB yet he's all the sudden a short Nikola Jokic.

Fran po's a lot of us but the guy has an eye for talent.

Seems to me this kid may not be all some of you seem to see.

All I see is everyone saying what you're saying but not what you're supposedly responding too.

Think Wes Washpun. He didn't have great BBall skills coming out of HS, but he was ultra athletic. Had he come to Iowa he would have played a lot as an upperclassman. I see similar potential in Nimmers.
He's also a good 3pt shooter or at least had a good percentage in high-school.

I hope Fran can figure out how to get him to play the game well because he has some very good tools.

I agree it will be in years 4 and 5 where it can pay off.

Why did he bring Ogundele back?

No idea, and I hope he does well, just not seeing it now.

What should you expect from a walk on anyhow? Unless a scholarship was given its a no brainer to keep developing him here. He’s got athleticism that has been rare on a Fran roster. Fran has turned walk ons into contributors before, I think he has a shot not differently than Baer.

Good, I hope that's the case.
Should have known the hyperbole about a kid, who isn't offered a scholly, here was a bit much....
