They are such little bitches. Chad, Scott, Kakert, Herman Munster Jon Miller, Harty and the king bitch Howe. Old white bitches. The only halfway decent one is David E., as he doesn't suck on the nads of the other reporters like the big iowa media circle jerk that we have seen for 30 years. They have zero worthy inside sources. They are obsessed with young newcomers because they might have some modern ideas and use modern technology. When is the last time they broke a story in advance. All they do is speculate and go on each other's podcast. It's gross and incestuous. Their work on the offensive coordinator search was pathetic. I hate to see what happens when we are looking for a new head football coach. An entire new pool of reporters is needed. That's it, I'm off the ledge.

Couldn't disagree more with this post.
Ben kept this so close to the vest there was virtually NOTHING leaking out the past few days. As it should've been. He had a team to focus on.
The worst thing you can do as a media member is put out info that turns out to be false. That can be a career killer.
I have no problem with the guys playing it safe. As far as which guys to like, to each their own.

Yeah, the guy that prematurely ejaculated a bs story is the “good” one.

You’re an imbecile.

Sports...serious business.

Relax OP. They have a job to do and aren't paid extremely well for doing it. They also aren't in the business of speculating and publishing articles before they know for sure.

that's the point, they know nothing, they haven't broken anything before the public knows. I know some folks inside the football program, the staff laughs at these "beat writers". And they are speculating, just listen to their podcasts, its all speculating.

They are beat writers in a small market, not investigative journalists in a large market. Expecting them to be agitators or finding big scoops just isn't realistic.

I heard the Hawk Central tried to get Woodward and Bernstein, but they turned their noses up at the salary of $32,500.

interesting coming from you
Not really.

I have been both a reporter and an editor and I know how the work is supposed to be done.

Reporting a deal is being "finalized" when it is not and then clenching your ass-cheeks praying to be right all day is not good journalism.

And you have stayed in a Holiday Inn

Well the Drake AD just torched Eickholt indirectly for falsely reporting the deal was being finalized Sunday morning.

Those guys don't qualify as "media" for the most part. They are just basically de facto extensions of the Sports Information Department and shills of the Athletic Department. Actually, in general, I gave up on "media" as I understood it quite a long time ago.
I forget his name, but I met an old boy at the bar by my house one time that was a long retired sportswriter that had just moved here who worked for the Register, among others during his career. He said he became very good friends with George Raveling and when George would call the office he would ask his secretary to 'speak to the Iowa States sports information director'. I forgot most of the other cool stories he had as this was probably a dozen years ago and I'm certain that guy is dead now, but that was the funniest take I got from him all the stories that he loved telling. Unrelated, but what you said reminded me of that guy and the great time I had talking to him.

This post isn't about David E and his reporting. It's about the dumb shits that report on iowa. David e just seems to be a little less nauseating. Iowa has zero legit reports or "news" people. It's sad.
David was the first to break it. Hell I even heard it was close to a done deal on Saturday night and I have zero affiliation with the university. Just all rumors of I know this guy that says it’s true! I think David broke it before actually knowing to be the first guy. Luckily it worked out for him.

What qualifies as sports reporting on the U of I is about having and maintaining access. There is not now, nor will be for the foreseeable future, any possibility that a beat writer would jeopardize their access with speculation beyond generalities.
Any commentary that could be taken as significantly negative or critical, outside of well known publicly available information, will be avoided at all costs.

Good luck getting quotes, stories, or updates on football related news without these guys. It becomes a lot more difficult. They do what they can do. Fort Kinnick makes their jobs tougher than it could be.

You’re not wrong. You have to have them. Sometimes info gets posted to try and be the first. He got lucky and it worked out this time.

Believing that they negotiated a multimillion dollar contract over the course of a few hours last night because McCollum gave the same "I'm focused on my team" coach speak everyone in his situation gives is just absolutely incredible gullibility and it's really embarrassing all the old print guys are running with that theory because they can't admit Eickholt scooped them. He never said it was done, he said it was in the process of being finalized and then it was done less than 24 hours later. Very obvious to anyone with a brain that he was right and that either McCollum or his agent had already been in contact with Iowa. But they're all up on their high horses lecturing about the importance of being right instead of being first like they're reporting on the Pentagon papers over what is at best an incredibly pedantic disagreement over the definition of "finalizing"

That is why I never go to the 247 site. Too much speculation and few facts.
