Iowa offers 2019 prospect Lök Wur

We need to forget the notion of the ‘4 year player’ with the current environment for transferring. Some guys might stick 4 years but don’t count on it now.
Anthony Clemons would never have stayed 4 years at Iowa in the current ‘transfer’ climate and become the player he became.

No way of knowing this. Transfers were plenty prevalent back then too. AC stuck it out at Iowa and was rewarded. Pemsl has done the same thing.

I always hated standardized tests and the ACT. Had a 4.0 every year and all through high school but never got an ACT score above 23. Still graduated from University of Iowa with honors.

Research shows that the best predictor of how students will do academically in college is how they did in high school, NOT scores on the ACT or SAT. Both of those college admissions tests are businesses designed to make money, not to accomplish any valid educational goal. Hell, the SAT never even included a writing component until the president of the California state system of universities said it would drop the SAT unless a writing component was added. Guess what? The SAT immediately added an essay. It couldn't afford to lose all that money from the California system. And, of course, writing is the fundamental skill in every academic area.

I did pretty well on my ACT, but I hate it and the SAT. Both are scams.

The kid's offer list continues to grow. Creighton offered yesterday:

It kind of seems like distance won’t be a factor in his decision, i read he committed to play Junior College (is junior college what it’s still called or CC??) ball in Florida.. I was hoping he may have wanted to stay near home..

For some reason these late signees never work out. Usually they come out of nowhere and become hot because teams are looking to add someone and so everyone goes after the same kid that has upside.

Some athletes dont realize the importance of their grades until their junior or senior years and sometimes that's too late.

After watching this video a couple of times this kid reminds me of Kenyan Murray in the way he moves, runs, build, etc......granted this kid is about 4 inches taller than Kenyan, but that is who comes to mind while watching him.

The test scores aren't really used to predict performance but to cross check the HS grades. Grade inflation and pass throughs are so common, especially among athletes, that grades alone aren't reliable.

Perfect example. If a kid that attends the Bronx HS of Science and does well is probably well prepared for college. If a kid goes to PS 83 or Harry Truman, both within blocks of BHSoS, grades would be kind of meaningless because both are terrible schools and the graduates frequently read at grade school level.

I kind of don't care if schools take a flier on a couple hundred varsity athletes. Worse case scenario they can't stay NCAA eligible and you've given kids a chance to improve themselves. Best case scenario the kid takes advantage of the college environment and does catch up academically; preparing them for a broader spectrum of career opportunities when they join the 99% of NCAA athletes that never play pro sports. Either way they contribute more than they take from whatever school waives their academic entry requirements.

Can we afford to pay him as much as these other schools? Creighton and Oregon are under investigation, right?

ASU or LSU will probably “jump in” at the last minute and land him.
