Iowa PR doing its thing

This is basically how I feel.

Now, they've got their credentials and can go on doing what they do. Theirs is a blog, like many others, many others who have been denied credentials. What makes them better? Experience? Some paid subscribers? But I quoted this post for a reason: They didn't have anyone to call based on their long experience? Had they burnt that many bridges?

You should know better than this. Why try to plead your case to some assistant that has already been told the verdict has cone from higher up. They understand technology and the power of public opinion. Their method was effective and achieved the end result quickly.

I don't have a problem with it. They are a couple of hacks trying to start a business that profits off the back of the UofI athletics. It's not Iowa's obligation to help them out and I don't see any benefit in doing so. Plenty of Hawkeye news can be found elsewhere already.
Hey dumb ass, what reporter does not work for an organization that profits from Hawkeyes?

Most do, which is why Iowa could care less about two more. And when you have a history of being a pain in the butt its hard to feel sorry for you when Iowa doesn't go out of their way to help you.

What a terrible decision. The Iowa PR machine at it's best.

Let's see ... The two reporters want to write about the Iowa football team. The Iowa team should want somebody to write about them. Seems fairly symbiotic.

And then Iowa doubles down on dumb by coming up with an obvious b.s. cover story - because certainly the "private" part of the excuse is inconsistent with granting others private entities access.

But what do you expect from an athletic department that asked fans to wear red to a TV game against Wisconsin, that went out of its way to not post video or photos of the construction of the new practice facility, and that grants the media a grand total of 1 hour of access to practice all year?

It appears our athletic department doesn't want to do anything to try to excite a fan base that is slipping away (see ticket sales) and fails to understand that people have options for their entertainment dollar.

SMH
To be clear, fans weren't asked to "wear red" just sayin'

This likely turned out to be a great PR move for those 2. Maybe it was just a brilliant marketing ploy..... (yeah, they probably aren't that bright)

Claim they were denied, knowing the current over reactionary Iowa base would start poutrage.....let it fester for 4 or 5 hours, then claim it was over turned.....profit.

Guessing a couple dozen people discover them and maybe pay for membership.

I have never really understood that. Why pay? There are dozens of people doing great work covering the Hawks and it is free. Twitter is great for that.

Iowa is being childish and petty but to be honest it's doesn't surprise me at all. I can't be the only one who is growing very tired of all the marketing and PR bullshit. I can't help it but I'm about as disgusted with this university as I can get. Bitter losers (the administration not the student athletes)
So they are just supposed to let everybody in? Are Howe and Harty "special"? Just because they have their own thing now they automatically get in? It's fine for them to whine, but why in the world would anybody else care?

"I don't have a problem with it. Barta and KF are a couple of hacks trying to turn a profit off the backs of U of I athletes." Seems like a pretty hypocritical opinion. You have just described what hundreds of universities are doing to their athletes. College sports is a pretty big business.

Crap! I was looking forward to not having to read stupid crap from those two. Darn you University of Iowa ....

Well, fortunately for you, you'd have to actually pay for their stupid crap now that they are operating their own paid site. You should be safely insulated as long as you don't accidentally join their site.

I understand that college athletics is a big business and they need all the coverage they can get. Big time sports and the media are a symbiotic relationship and they can't really survive without the other. To me, banning someone like Mike Hlas from the Gazette or telling a DSM news station (both established, legitimate news organizations) they can no longer have media access because you don't like some of the coverage they have done is different then denying two has-beens that are starting up their own website.

Good, great news. Those 2 are a couple of hacks that never had a positive spin on anything. What goes around comes around.

Someone so stupid that they actually are on DJK's side and believe him after everything he did should not get a press pass. Harty on the other hand is different. At least he is a journalist.

Remember that year we played Wisconsin and they made everyone wear a red tshirt? How about that Northwestern game that they forced everyone to paint their torsos purple? Idiots.

What was worst was when the cheerleaders led us in a "Who hates Iowa" chant against Minnesota. That was really dumb, in hindsight.

Like them or not their tweet worked. Not only did they get their press credentials but also generated free publicity to their new website.

turning out just like an episode of "House of Cards". the only thing missing is a homosexual 3-way with Harty, Howe and Barta. Maybe throw in a booster and a local rib joint owner.

Wow, this is exactly what I refer to when I say drama queens exaggerate and over dramatizing everything to make their point look better than what it is.

The fans were given red white and blue pom poms for Veterans Day. But saying the fans were asked to wear red for the Wisconsin game makes it sound far worse doesn't it? You really got them good on this one.

This is the third time I have said I misrecalled the facts. But feel free to continue to jump on my ass. The rest of my post is 100% accurate.

But feel free to be a continue to be a tool.

I am the least drama queen around here. As you would know from my OT posts. But carry on tool.

Calling someone a tool is grounds for creating drama......and for someone who says they are the least drama queen around here...you sure aren't making good on your claim.

I'll let my posting history for itself. I've said I recalled it incorrectly now 4 times.

same thing in my eyes I guess. the employer will retain the folks who provide the most bang for the buck.

I doubt you've had to pull employees into your office and tell them due to the economy and downsizing that we had to let them go. I"m not talking about pain in the behind employees that were lazy and performed poorly. I'm talking about hard working employees that were great to have on the team, but we had no other choice. It sucks and as far as I'm concerned, there is a big difference between being fired and being the victim of downsizing, especially as it relates to giving references and assistance those that were laid off in trying to find a new job.

sure I have. did you forget about the part where you tell other people that they still have a job because of their performance relative to their peers?
