Iowa reopening restaurants to full capacity, swimming pools

Texas (specifically Houston) has been been trending up, somewhat drastically, since Texas opened. But number of deaths appears to continue being flat, which is good.

unless they have already been working on some of that. I know many pools have still been doing lap swim and lessons.

Most indoor pools can operate with a staff of 20 people. An outdoor pool needs up to 150 lifeguards if it is decent size. All of those employees require training each year. There will be a few pools that open but the vast majority will not. Finding staff will be a challenge.

Our small town pool was open for lessons and lap swim with the hopes of more opening later. They guessed correctly.

Was it a stand alone pool? Or attached to a larger facility?
Stand alone. Almost every small Iowa town with a population around 1000 or more has a city pool. Many in the past decade have actually built nice mini aquatic parks.

I wasn't clear on the pool part whether they just had to comply with the normal IDPH regulations for pools or more strict CDC guidelines for COVID. Enforcing social distancing between anyone not living in the same home would be a huge challenge if the latter.

we're not opening at all b/c can't find lifeguards (decided last week). Most had already found jobs for the summer with school being let out early

Vision Iowa in the Vilsack era built a lot of those pools.

I miss lap swimming a lot. All the open swim events this summer are already cancelled.

Not sure if this is really a problem at restaurants. Are there any dining rooms that have been at their full 50% capacity since reopening?

Haven't been a lot of places but where I have it would be a moot point increasing dine in from 50% to 100%.

It's the bars. Some have been pushing it and the complaints were coming in. Rather than deal with it through legal means, it's easier to just drop the restriction.
It's time to keep slowing coming back.

The article reports 7 deaths in the past 24 hours. Yet another record high for Kim Reaper.

Restaurants in the Summer time are
not as much a priority as they are the
rest of the year. This might be a good
time to test the vulnerability of people
willing to take a chance at dining out.
Good Luck to Iowans.

Especially with college classes now starting in mid-August. The IC city park pool hasn’t been filled yet. There is no way they start now and then shut down in early August.

Have heard it's been SRO on weekend nights at the General Store in Stone City since it reopened a few weeks ago. People want to eat and drink together.

Ate out at the Lakes twice this past weekend and again last night. All three places were packed and I'm sure well over 50%. Gonna get crazy up there.

Guessing if your establishment were a hot spot pre covid it still would be and if not the cat's meow, people wouldn't be a anxious to return.

When I was up there for openers it was spooky. Noone in sight. Lights were out. Even the convenience stores were closed by 7 or 8. Wally world was dark by then too. (Obviously some of the seasonal places aren't open yet then but some are).

The place at the trestle was still closed and was using their parking lot as an outdoor boat showroom.

Glad it has bounced back....hopefully everyone will stay well.

I know Coralville is opening there's but they have ulterior motives for that move.

I've seen a few smaller towns announce the re-opening on their local pools, still hoping we see something closer to QCA

Our country club has a pool, but it only offers one diving board
