As much crap as the Iowa haters like to give the Brands I don't know if I have every heard them say a bad word about another coach to the media. He may be a little goofy in his comments sometimes but classy in regards to other coaches.

Exactly, I was upset when we were matched us up with NCState and felt it left us a few matches we have already had and not many chances to move up without a unexpected upset. Yesterday, I got back to us not wrestling Penn St and it just doesn't seem right. I feel the best solution would be a Big 10 championship match. Do it like we are finally doing in football. Since everyone (realistically just a few teams) would need to keep that date open, every Big Ten Team should wrestle. Duels determined by Big Ten rankings and the higher ranked team is the home team.
Why can't they have a dual against Penn State after Nationals? Would there be a Rule against this??? No worry for how it would affect Nationals then?

That's a great response from your coach. He and his brother get lots of criticism from other fan bases for their matside antics, but quotes like this, in my opinion, show who he really is. He's a passionate coach who loves the sport, respects his competitors, and would do anything for his kids. He's good for wrestling.
The number one reason why, is timing. I'm sure neither Cael or Brands would consider it in the best interest of their teams to schedule such a tough dual right before B1G's and Nationals. Being your best in March is the ultimate goal right now.
What needs to happen is for Brands and Sanderson to INSIST to the BIG that they wrestle each other EVERY year.If not schedule it on their own there is precedence.

I think all people are goofy in some way - some goofiness more detrimental than others.
I like that the Brands brothers know it and embrace it - few people do. They are insanely competitive and realize that it can look strange to "normal people", but it has made them what they are.
My favorite thing they've done is that charity swim race. That was about the funniest thing ever and spoke well of their personalities.
This entire incident has shown that 95% of people that constantly criticize Iowa, simply have an ax to grind. They'll berate Iowa for every on and off the mat incident, but then compliment Dresser for "speaking his mind". We have as authentic of a coaching staff as anyone in the country. They are the same people in public that they are behind closed doors, and I respect them greatly for that. Kudos to Tom, the coaching staff, and the entire team on taking the high road. Meanwhile Dresser continues to embarrass himself on twitter

No way Brands wrote this. This was carefully crafted by the PR department. Like it or not, VT got jobbed and should have been coming to Iowa. Not sure what happened behind the scenes, but this definitely got everyone's attention. By jobbed, you mean like the 5 transfers who lost a year of eligibility because VT wanted to be vindictive towards Brands? Punish the kids to get back at the coach......
I predict that this display by Dresser has ensured that VT will never get a dual in Carver or Blacksburg with Iowa unless it is at a national duals tournament or they are both the obvious #1 B1G and Non B1G teams.
And I am sure the PR department was speaking to Andy Hamliton and they were all at the 1986 NCAA tournament and did Dressers camps.
This whole scenario was concocted by Dresser Day 1 as some ploy to get Iowa to dual them at some point and his cronies are buying the snake oil he is selling. Should have beat Iowa State amigo. Brands maybe didn't write it but all thoughts are his. I seriously wanted us to wrestle Vag Tech but I could care less anymore. You think Tom Brands doesn't see through Dresser's attempt to get his foot in the door of Carver?
I thought what was most funny was Dresser trying to say that since they both started at their schools at the same time, Brands was scared to dual because losing would make it seem that Vag Tech had surpassed Iowa despite three titles and all top 5 finishes after Brands initial year.

No that is not the only reason a person wouldn't schedule a dual against someone. VT is playing checkers right now while Brands is playing chess. Dresser and VT fans are using 3rd grade tactics to get Iowa to dual them.
I am sure Dresser has been trying to get Iowa to dual them forever. Just like I am sure Brands is like go fly a kite.
Dresser was probably dreaming of the scenario of getting to go to Iowa City with his best dual team to date. I am sure he was building up some scenario to his boosters and fans that this was a done deal beforehand so they could hit the forums once it didn't happen and try and force Iowa's hand.

Whatever it takes...Brands has been ducking Dresser for years. We have tried to schedule duals for years and Brands refuses. Might have to start calling him Joepa as he did it for 20 years in football...
You nailed it hawksox, personally, Brands' statement above is right on the money. Most of us, no matter which team we support, can see the hypocrisy in how this came to be. Everyone knows this problem gets solved by Penn State and Iowa going head to head in a dual meet EVERY year. I lay this at the feet of the guilty part, the Big Ten.

Haha@ ducking. This is the first time Vag Tech has even been in the same conversation and I admit you match up well this year but that's a long way from saying you'd beat us. It would be close, but Iowa would win, especially in Carver. How about you go to Hilton and decide best 2 of 3? Then put on your big boy pants.
This all really comes down to recruiting. Not l being able to wrestle at Carver must really sting.
on the plus side I just checked big10plus there are 12 duals over 4 days I am about to go deep couch city.

Dresser is a former Hawkeye and for that, he has my respect.
His accusations are misguided, but I love his passion. I love that he's calling us out and I love the passion from the Hawkeye fans.
I hope we duel them, I really do.
I hope this sparks a rivalry with V Tech as that program continues to grow.
This controversy is good for the sport. We need more of this and less TR Foley preaching peace, love, and joy. This is wrestling not show choir.
