Iowa revenues projected to drop by $500 million in each of next 2 years due to GOP tax cuts

This was the plan all along, they just didn't tell us. Now they get to look earnestly at us and tell us tough cuts need to be made, except for school vouchers. Those are critical to give those kids from Dowling a fair shot in life.
Local revenues are being impacted, too.

Shitty parents is pretty much the root cause of most problems.

Not sure more taxes is going to help.

I still say the best policy would be to offer people between the ages of 18-30 $10,000 tax free to get a vasectomy or their tubes tied.

Iowa's expenditures will outpace their revenues going forward but those in power tell us this is OK because, for now, there is a surplus. They are also advocating for zero income tax that will slash revenues further while simultaneously paying out hundreds of millions more to subsidize families who have been sending their children to private school.

Fiscal conservatism.

They will raid the trust fund to hide the issue in 2026.
I still think Kim doesn't run in 2026 because the real s**t storm will hit after that when painful cuts have to happen. She won't want to hang around for that.

I would want the budget to be balanced. I see no situation should the revenue not cover the expenses and it is epically stupid to tap into surplus dollars to offset the additional cost.

Finance…. Don’t follow the news during the legislative sessions? Listen to Kim’s plans for a new and greater Ioway? Pretty much what the Repubbers have been chasing ever since Terry the Second made his re-appearance to Iowa v politics. You know damn well this is what Terry/Kim and the GOP are planning to do.

I suppose kim can eliminate free and reduced school lunches, reduce unemployment checks to two weeks max, terminate all DNR employees, and cut teacher pay to make up shortfalls.
I’d look for public employees to be given the opportunity to make “better choices”, in regards to their retirement and health care options.

Won’t surprise me if she runs to replace Chuck.

I don't follow Iowa politics. I simply responded to a post that provided no basis, and was asking for some basis. People post opinions on the internet as if those opinions are fact, when they often are just partisan trash.

This is NO phuquin’ secret of what Branstad/Reynolds and the Iowa GOP has in mind. They have been working on iot for more than a decade. They have a “veto-proof” legislature……,and a public has has its heads up their asses. You a rat as though one can find “the quote” that proves his point……..when actually those living here have seen it happening every day for years. How do you quote a decade? How can you link it?

Cuts should always be on the table. Cut away and then cut some more.

That's worth exploring.
It may be….but Northern, I know you and yours are real big on those who “flip-flop”….and Iowa Republicans have staunchly advocated maintaining the state of Iowa’s current retirement pension system for its state employees. OR, would this “flip-flop” be regarded as “well, that’s different” BECAUSE REPUBLICANS advocate the change? Lord help us Dems if Chet Culver of Vilsack would have ever attempted this.

There's an Iowa Senate candidate named Dawn Driscoll that is campaigning on her vote to increase teacher pay...while she voted to reduce support to the AEAs.

How fvcking stupid does she think voters in Mississippi North are?
Stupid bitch.
