Iowa State top 15 in both bball and fball. Iowa fball still a '74 Dodge pickup with one flat tire; bball still looks like a suburban YMCA team.

This is a bad take. Texas has won a natty more recently than OU. Also Texas was in the playoff just last season.
I said TX was in the playoffs last year, did you read that? And OH yeah, Texas's last Natty Champ was in 2005, two decades, one full 20 year generation of players ago. The Big 12 has been a league that plays little defense which is why they have gotten left out or done poorly in playoffs etc. They have high powered offenses which many times the Big Ten doesnt have.

The Big Ten has won 2 Natty's in the last 9 years which is not bad with the likes of SEC and Clemson being powerhouses.

74 Dodge pickups were bullet proof. Back when they made them solid and not like tin foil thickness.

Sounds like you belong in the clone fanbase.
Fran has done a great job recruiting the small forward to center position. Recruiting guards has been woeful. Having your son play point guard probably wasn’t a recipe for getting elite talent to come to iowa in that position.

Until last year, the Big Ten and Big 12 had the same amount of nattys since 2000

Yeah and the Big 10s have been much more recent. Now Mich ST after getting in during the 2015 season got creamed and Mich did not win it after getting in in 2021 and '22.

But my take is the same as I bet even the Iowa offense since 2000 would have looked much better than the hand tacklers in the Big 12.

I’m not sure there is anyway to confirm that assertion.

Well, if it makes anyone feel better, regarding football, only one of these programs will still exist in FBS a decade from now. I mean, how does a program making less than 50 million (I'm being very, very generous based on future projections) annually compete with 250+ million (I'm being very stingy with future projections)?

Also, nobody really watches college basketball anymore so it's unlikely to matter in that regard.

There's some optimism for ya.

This whole forum is filled with conjecture and opinions and you are worried about confirming my assertion. Of course we cant confirm it because it is in the past but it is my feeling and assertion after watching Baylor and TCU play to something like a 68-65 final score. I watched alot of sooner football where the defense was a placeholder to lamely try to stop the other team until OU's high powered offense got its turn with the ball. Wow it was just the opposite of what football should be with tough defenses.

Let's leave it at that.

I would contest that the defense was better in the Big Ten but the offenses were overwhelmingly better in the Big 12.

Offenses in our league have struggled for a while.

BG has two big hires to make in the next few years. I don't know if she'll get it right the first time, but I'm about 10000% more confident in her doing the hire compared to her predecessor....

We'll always be a Hawkeye State as long as wrestling and baseball exist.

Also, careful about trying to double down on your intentionally pessimistic take by shaming wrestling, because I can link this to the wrestling board and start a holy war right in the middle of football season......... ;)

Most of those crusty old farts are just sitting around right now discussing the latest high school wrestling circuit results and itching to fight someone because they have deep-rooted bitterness towards all the basketball fans that invade the wrestling board and cry about how much our wrestling program sucks now because we can't beat Penn State for the national title.....................................................................................................just sayin. :D
Yet I wonder who shows up on that Board around tournament time?
