I'm starting to hope they win out as well. I want to see the odds of a bowl blowout increase!!
I’m sure I’m in the minority but I hope Iowa State does well.
First, I don’t really consider them a rival in football. We are in different classes.
Second, as long as we play them, we want the football community to “think” they are good so when we randomly lose to them it doesn’t look so bad.

Iowa has regressed since Penn State; Iowa State has progressed since playing Iowa. if you can't see the difference between the way the two teams are playing against totally different levels of competition then I can't help you. They knocked off two undefeated teams ranked in the top 5 within a month. They are a good football team, as much as it pains me to say that. Give credit where credit it due otherwise we all sound like the Iowa State fans of old, whining about how our inferior team is better than it is.

they didn't look all that great in any of them......

So you're saying since we started playing B10 teams we don't look as good and since ISU started playing B12 teams they suddenly look better, that's your point right?

We'll see how that stacks up next weekend against Ohio St.who were beaten by OKie.

This season has shades of 2002 in reverse. And ISU fans at the time had pretty much the same reaction some of our fans are having now. "Oh, their conference is weak. They aren't playing anyone good."
So Big 12 doesnt play defense but the big 10 does? Didnt isu put up like 40 on us and okie did damn near the same vs buckeyes? So we couldnt play defense against them either.
You can't reach a conclusion one way or the other based on a game played in early September.
With that said, thinking Iowa would magically have a high octane offense playing in the Big XII is ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I think defense in the Big XII is by and large terrible, but it's not like the Iowa offensive output at ISU would be duplicated every week.
It also looked worse against NW and Minnesota. That's three really, really bad offensive games out of five since Iowa State and all three have been in a row following the Penn State game. Why three? Believe it or not, I was actually impressed with how well Iowa's O did against PSU's D. Outside of what Ohio State did against them (late), Penn State's defense has been lights out. I could see it in the Iowa game. They are fast and athletic. I thought they probably executed and called plays about as well as they could against PSU--except for the overthrown deep balls by Stanley, but at that time I chocked that one up to being so young and inexperienced. I still do and probably will give him somewhat of a pass all year, especially with the inability to run the ball and the decimated and weak offensive line. It may have more to do with injuries than anything else. I think Iowa still had Boettger and Myers in the Iowa State game. Play Iowa State without those two guys in the lineup and that's a much different ballgame. Probably a loss, maybe a double-digit loss.
But I give Iowa State credit for making those other teams look bad. They may have been overrated in the top 5, but I still think Oklahoma is a top 10 team and TCU is a legit top 20. We'll find out a lot more about Iowa State the next two weeks, on the road to WV and at home against Okie State. I'm cringing at their success and yet I can't help but be intrigued. This looks like it might be the best Iowa State team since ... ??? It's probably better than the team that beat the Hawks in 2002 and that was probably the best Iowa State team I'd ever seen in my lifetime (even though they never should have that game).
If they lose the next two games but are highly competitive in them, I'll still have to give them begrudging credit for such a dramatic improvement in one year with mostly the same guys. Campbell may be an ass, but he can coach.
Our D was horrible in the cyhawk game, no doubt about it.
More than half the clown points were from guys standing wide open.
They are not just helping Iowa's SOS.

No. I thought Iowa's offense played well against Penn State given the competition. Since then, though, Iowa has played like crap offensively against average-to-below-average B10 teams. It looks like losing Boettger was the biggest blow. But it also looks like the offense has zero confidence in itself most of the time. They have no identity, really.
Meanwhile, Iowa State has looked good all year. They looked damn good against Iowa even though they lost. Iowa played extremely well that game. That was the only truly good game the offense has played all year. Even against Wyoming and N. Texas Iowa looked like a subpar B10 offense. I don't think I'm saying anything that radical here. I'm being realistic about what I see on the field for both teams. The old "The B12 is bad" argument is antiquated. Iowa wouldn't beat half those teams this year, not playing like they have lately. They wouldn't win half their games if they played every team in the B10, either. They're lucky they're playing in the B10 West or else this team probably wouldn't have a chance to make a bowl game. I bet most teams in the east lick their chops the years they don't have to play Wisconsin.

The only reason Big 10 defenses look good now is because most Big 10 offenses are stuck in the 1980's. That only works for a team that has the talent of Alabama. Speaking of which, just wait until Alabama plays the Big Ten Champion...probably Ohio State. They'll do to Ohio State what Clemson did to them last year.
Or maybe what osu did to alabama three years ago when bamas punter was their best player.

And yet we are about to be ranked in the top 20 of the playoff rankings coming out this week but you are right, we are garbage. Guess that means your 2002 team was garbage too since we beat them? You won your Super Bowl, your best win of the season. Congrats and keep game planning for that game against us next year!
Congrats on your recent success. You guys got lucky to win yesterday with TCU turning the ball over twice inside the five yard line and the offsides call on the pick six. Should of been 28-14, 24-14, or 20-14. TCU is not a top five team as they were garbage yesterday and haven't played a good team all season till yesterday.
Take the lucky bounces and enjoy your win and don't come over here to validate your team or season because you won't hear it from Hawk fans. Most Iowa fans realize Iowa's gotten a lot of lucky breaks over the years so you enjoy them when they come along. Now let's see what you guys do the next two weeks @ wvu and vs OSU. I say two close loses but good luck.
