Ol' Doodle listened to all 3 games online. Hawks probably aren't quite as good as 32-7 might appear to indicate....but OSU might very well be every bit as bad as 7-32 indicates. Hawks piled on from the jump in all three games.
Hopefully the O can continue to be productive so the pitching and defense don't have to always be nearly perfect to give us a chance to win.

Anyone know what’s up with Andy Nelson? One of our leading hitters last year but saw no action this past weekend other than pinch run.

Ohio State does seem to have absolutely no pitchers who can find the plate and may be one of the worst teams we’ve seen in DB for a series in quite some time. 181 free passes (HBP + BB) in 171 innings.
Minnesota will give at least a temporary RPI boost and a series win may at least start to create pathways for getting into the at large discussion since the schedule will also lend itself to a late charge in the RPI.
I DO think that with what we’ve seen from starting pitching, the team is 100% capable of a prolonged win streak and a gaudy record before the Oregon teams. But that will require some high leverage offensive execution and bullpen work that we’ve yet to see.
We need consistent bats, bull pen hasn't been perfect, but much better than last season.
I don't have any comments on Andy, he's a good guy.
If they were hitting early on they could potentially be undefeated right now. Notre Dame stings from a RPI perspective. Some of the early losses are tough to swallow. There are a couple of bull pen guys I don't think are serious enough yet. But by and large they've done enough to win. As I see it the early losses were more lack of offensive consistency than bull pen issues. Probably some of both is most accurate.Yes it’s WAY better. It’s just the execution in high leverage moments that’s been lacking and they’ve lost games that were there to be one (ND being the most egregious). I’m not sure I’d even go so far as to say they’re inconsistent. Sure, there’s a luck factor, that leaves me optimistic. But the 12-8 could easily be 15-5, but it most certainly couldn’t be 9-11. Most every win has been a piss pounding and most of the losses have been close.
Given the schedule and how things are coming along with pitching, a top 4 Big Ten finish feels very reasonable, and going even better is at least somewhat realistic.
Wish we could get that Washington State series back because that really stung. If they were hitting early on they could potentially be undefeated right now. Notre Dame stings from a RPI perspective. Going in to the season I had expected improved pitching, and we've seen that. My concern was offensive consistency. I think we're still going to see inconsistent hitting as the competition gets better. I hope I'm wrong. As long as they keep improving we have a chance.
We have some series left that could enhance RPI, but very likely we'd need to perform well in the B1G tournament.
Thanks, and thanks for letting us know it's about time to start bitching about RPI!If they were hitting early on they could potentially be undefeated right now. I don't know if there is more to it (injury, etc) or not...but he wasn't having his usual success from the plate in the early part of the season.Anyone know what’s up with Andy Nelson? One of our leading hitters last year but saw no action this past weekend other than pinch run.
