Iowa vs . ISU breakdown

I am high on Gilman, but Klimara isn't Dance. Dance is a lot harder to score on. I would still go with Gilman, but a major is a bit far fetched, IMO.

Gilman just barely majored Klimara, an inferior wrestler to Dance with inferior defense.

I'll go 67/33 Gilman vs Dance. I think their match at Nationals gave Gilman the mental edge going forward. He was down 5-1 in that match at one point and lost 3-1 SV in the midlands. When he was down in that hole the second time he had to make it happen and when he did he scored 2 takedowns, one in the last 30 seconds of the match, and in the first 30 seconds of overtime. Prior to that he hadn't scored an offensive point on him but now he knows he can, and his pace looks really great this year.

But as always, dance is an incredibly slick wrestler and can score in the blink of an eye with great misdirection shots, and shuck by series.

Sooooo...back to the dual.

125: Gilman dec. Boston. Boston seems to be able to hang tough with high quality wrestlers. 3-0.
133: Clark dec. Hall. Clark has put some distance between them. 6-0.
141: Rodriguez dec. Ryan. ISU just better here. 6-3.
149: Sorensen dec. Moreno. 9-3.
157: Cooper dec. Breitenbach. Close one that ISU could very well win. I think Cooper is just better at this point. 12-3.
165: Weatherman dec. whomever we send out. Weatherman doesn't have much of a gas tank but he has just enough to hold off Paddock/Rhoads. 12-6.
174: Meyer dec. Weatherspoon. Meyer goes down early but wins late as Weatherspoon runs out of gas. 15-6.
184: Brooks TF Pestano. Pestano looks like a grinder but Brooks is at another level. 20-6.
197: Burak pin Egli. ISU may FFT here. 26-6.
HWT: Stoll dec. Smith. Smith has been game for some good HWTs in recent times but doesn't have enough for Stoll, IMHO. Both guys like to go upper body so I wouldn't be shocked to see a pin either way as Smith is huge and has the strength to back it up. 29-6.

Those are the picks with my head. My gut says Iowa picks up a major and ISU snags a 3rd win in there somewhere. I'll go with 27-9.

Give me Rhoads. His gas tank is great and he will be on a mission to prove the spot is his..

Wow... some here predicting ISU COULD win three matches. But...two of those three would be considered tossups. Just goes to show what this rivalry has become.

To my ISU brethren reading this forum... if ISU stays within 15 points with the final score... consider it a good day for the Clones.

Not according to CF. They have a "very good" shot at 5 wins.

I don't want to start a new thread for this... Regarding the Gilman/Dance video above... When viewing on iPhone, I get no sound. This happens with some other videos as well here on this board, including the Terry Flo trailer video. The sound on my phone is "on", as I can hear anything else outside of certain videos on this board.

I figure I'm missing something pretty easy, but can't figure out what it is?

Thank you.

Probably the sound is muted on the video. Click on the speaker on the bottom left and pump up the volume.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a speaker symbol on the bottom left of the screen. All that is there is the volume bar, which I have slid from left to right, back, and all positions in between. There doesn't appear to be any way to mute/unmute the video. I have closed the app, re-opened, tried to launch the video out to YouTube itself instead of viewing through the Iowa mobile app, etc. Nothing seems to work. It's a bummer, this happens often when trying to watch any wrestling videos through this mobile app.

Edit, just in case anyone else has the same problem. For the first time in a long time, I just viewed this board through Safari instead of on the mobile app. The sound for the Gilman/Dance video worked just fine when viewing through Safari. So, as I suspected, the problem somehow lies within this mobile app, at least on my phone. I also noticed that the new design of the full site is much more mobile friendly. It may be time to just start using that, instead of this mobile app.

Is Boston having trouble with weight?

Yeah, reality is in short supply over there. Read the posts and most realize three wins max for them is best case scenario. 141/157/165 are their chance at avoiding embarrassment.

My guess is if TW gasses again... 165 is an Iowa victory.

And the sunshine pumpers from the ISU fan base will say " Just wait until we get Downey and Harrington for the second semester. We'll beat the Hawks with those two guys as starters".
Reality is this... ISU will NEVER beat Iowa with Kevin Jackson as their head coach.

It's even better. Many are claiming ISU is a top 10 team.

Neither Downey or Harrington would defeat the Hawk's Brooks and Burak. Brooks too good of lungs and Burak just too experienced. I can't wait for Iowa to paste Iowa State on Sunday. Iowa State's program is DREADFUL and Kevin Jackson as Head Coach is LAUGHABLE. KJ has NEVER defeated Iowa as Head Coach ---figure it out.
I'll go on record and say "Iowa State won't finish in the top 20 and will be fortunate to have 2 AA. Probably just 1 AA.

I think the clones are a bit better than some give them credit for. They certainly aren't where they should be, but they have now put together back to back excellent recruiting classes. Jackson hasn't shown himself to be a good coach but,he does have some excellent assistant coaches. I can see them finishing in the 12-15 range at NCAAs.

Brooks would win because he is a helluva a lot better wrestler, not because he has too good of lungs.

12-15 for a program like ISU is not good at all.

15th is exactly where ISU's average placement has been at NCAAs since Jacksons takeover (and that is counting a 3rd place finish in his first year with all of Cael's guys). The prior 3 coaches averaged place 6th. They have fallen off the map considerably from where expectations should be.

The worst part about it is that most ISU fans are supporting this bad performance and are fine with the lower expectations.

Iowa will steamroll them this weekend.

I agree with the majority of this. The only thing keeping them above water are the their version of TnT. They will be a better than average dual team this year, but they will be dreadful in a tourney setting. They have NO ONE that is a guaranteed AA for Nationals. Hall is the best chance and given last years performance... that's a big question.

Brooks is extremely talented as is Downey. And some would argue that Downey's resume is more impressive than Brooks. However, I don't think there's probably that much separation between the two, other than to say there is a DISTINCT difference in lifestyle's, which in this case is rather SIGNIFICANT. Keep in mind, Downey is not yet enrolled at Iowa State. He's still at Iowa Central with grades. So, much of this conversation very well may be a mute point. C'Mon Hawks lower the boom and PUNISH the clowns.
Gilman by decision, 3-0
Clark by decision, 6-0
Rodriguez by decision, 6-3
Sorenson by major, 10-3
Cooper Jr by decison, 13-3
Weatherman by decision, 13-6
Meyer by decision, 16-6
Brooks by technical fall, 21-6
Burak by major, 25-6
Stoll by decision, 28-6
Ho hum

Sorry gablefan73 for my editing error. My response begins with "Brooks is extremely talented...."
Go Hawks!!!!

Downey still doesn't have an AA and he's been in college over two years. College folkstyle results lean heavily towards Brooks. Think Brooks is going to get beat by Evan Hansen...ever? No.

Losing to Corey Clark and Mason Beckman (who is proven to be game in March) how exactly was that a bad performance?

If you're trying to convince me that Hall improved last season from the previous year when he AAed, you got your work cut out for you. Some of that was the loss of TN, as Angel is a step backward. Hall is borderline AA material this year. Could he... absolutely. Will he... if everything falls right for him.
I don't care who he lost to... maybe Beckman regressed also.
