DVR is great; however I really cannot bring myself to watch recorded sports events. There’s no way for me to avoid spoilers and that makes it impossible for me to enjoy it delayed.

I get that. I sometimes prefer the DVR but definitely wouldn't skip the birthday for a game. As much as I love the Hawkeyes you only get the first birthday once. I appreciate your values. Have fun!

Booze at birthday parties is a requirement. Most people don't wanna be there so you bribe them into going.

Like my dad always told me at my birthday parties: "be nice to everybody here, you're the only one that wants to be here everybody else has to be here. " He was spot on. Since you have kids you should have figured this out by now.

Yup. I don’t understand why people feel the need to have their face stuck in their phone every waking minute. No wonder people have the attention span of a 3 year old.

Well maybe because sports is a social experience for most people? I think it’s unrealistic to not talk to friends during a sporting event. I get communal enjoyment out of sports- not individual personal enjoyment. If I can’t watch a sporting event and talk about it with my friends, then there really isn’t any reason to watch IMO.
