Iowa was easily the better team

EDIT: I can't change the title, but I did not mean to say they are the better team overall. What I meant to say is Iowa had no business losing this game tonight, and completely choked it away.

Horrific coaching (as usual) down the stretch by Fran. Horrific turnovers (as usual) as the pressure mounted. Horrific last play of the game (as usual) with a TO in the pocket.

This team is not fun to watch. They are not disciplined, they implode under pressure, and some of the senior guys are turnover machines. I've been watching for a while waiting for them to break through, but the same horrible stretches of play and unforgivable turnovers are committed down the wire game after game. Fran is just not a good in-game coach, and should hand those duties over to an assistant.

Bullshit they were

Really? Iowa was winning by 15+ for the majority of the game, and then turns into a turnover machine down the stretch. They don't know how to close out games when the pressure is on. For pete's sake they got a five second violation when they still had a TO. That is just inexcusable.

The better team comes up clutch at the end. The better team shows it down the stretch. Iowa the better team? that is laughable.

No we weren't. It took an epic half from Uthoff. They adjusted 2nd half. I'm not denying we should have won, up 6 with ball under a minute, but once they denied Uthoff, Jok was basically the only option.

The team that wins is the better team.

The coaching staff and IA players choked, end of story

So you say Iowa was the better team then write two paragraphs explaining how crappy they are.....makes sense.

What I should and meant to have said was that they had the game in control and completely imploded. I actually didn't believe they were the better team on the season. They were the better team for the majority of this game. But as someone else said, you have to finish games. Iowa consistently does not finish games.

That was a total second half collapse the players are every bit as guilty as the coaches.

How many shot clock violations did Iowa have? Run the clock down, killing momentum, Ames only has to play D for the last ten seconds and prevent a drive to the basket trying to draw a foul.

Heard a guy on the radio mention Fran's record in games decided by six point or less is not good.

Iowa state seems to always find a way to win and Iowa finds a way to lose.

Really just Gessel's 2nd half performance, but he hit some shots down the stretch to put us in position to win. No excuse for losing with ball up 6 under a minute left.

I don't care who is technically the "better team." Yet again we pissed a victory down our leg. This game is the personification of a Fran-coached team. How many times has this happened since he has been here? How many times have we crapped ourselves late in games? This is one is a series of many choke jobs. These guys are seniors. Fran has coaches a lot of years. There is no way this should keep happening. But it does.

According to Fran in the post game, ISU didn't adjust at all. Uthoff just stopped shooting. He kept telling him to shoot, but he wouldn't Not a good interview by coach. Reminded me too much of a former guy I didn't care for. Hope that doesn't become the norm.

u are laughable ......only an epic shooting half by pretty decent player had iowa in the game. When the total 'team' played.....ISU was clealy the best team on the floor. But,....nice try on your part. All night,....5 of the best 6 basketball players on the floor were wearing cardinal n gold. Uoff is a good player,.....shoots well.

Well, it's a 40 minute game, unfortunately. Doesn't matter if you're better for 30 minutes when the scoreboard says you lose when it reads zeroes.

"Only an epic shooting half by a pretty decent player had iowa in the game" Being up by 20 is just being "in the game?" I don't agree that Iowa was clearly the better team, but I don't think Iowa State was clearly the better team either. Iowa choked. Plain and simple. What's odd to me is most of the kids on Iowa's team are from the state of Iowa, where Iowa State has none from the state (who actually see the floor). Yet, it seems Iowa State players cared way more about wining this rivalry game than the kids wearing black and gold. That's what surprises me the most.

They were holding on to the lead solidly for half of the second half too. Then they played no semblance of defense, chased guys around the 3 point line, took really questionable shots and turned it over repeatedly.
I understand that the argument against that is that better teams don't quit playing until the game is won.........but I don't give a f***, people. Deal with it.

Woodbury has not improved since the day he walked on campus. Gesell is simply a turnover machine. Not good for a point guard.

This game shows us Hawk fans how iswho fans must feel during football season. It will be interesting to see how the one-on-one style that the clowns use will work throughout the season.

The 2nd half defense by Iowa was atrocious. How many uncontested layups and dunks did ISU get in the 2nd half? If they would have tightened up the defense they would have won this game comfortably, even with Fran's bad coaching, and even with all the turnovers. ISU's PG just schooled the Hawks.
