Iowa WBB 2025 Recruiting Thread

Can/will Houston play the 3 or even the 4 at times next year?

Was wondering the same about the 4 for her only because it seems we have such a hard time filling that role.

Found some interesting posts in this thread back in mid '23 on Houston that might shed some insight to it.

"Houston is not a 2. Houston could guard a 2, but is not a 2 offensively. ... Houston plays hard ALL THE TIME and is quick off the dribble to the rim. Not sure how that will play at the next level, due to the length and athleticism of the competition. Both have another 2 years of high school and another year of Attack. Scary how good both could be come a year from now."

cyberhawk post:
"Journey Houston on her position.
"I am working on my outside game because when I get to college I will play in the 2-3, possibly 4, but mostly 2-3 position.""

Google search on that quote pulled up this article.
Class of 2025 G/F Journey Houston talks commitment to Iowa - 8/26/23
“My strengths are getting to the basket and rebounding. My next step in my game is staying consistent and expanding on my outside game… I am working on my outside game because when I get to college I will play in the 2-3, possibly 4, but mostly 2-3 position.”

"Journey seems more like a stretch 4 to me, at this point, because her shooting and ball handling is just okay. Having said that, she’s more of a 3, like you say, if I consider Stulke a perfect 4. Some similarities to their games but Houston is better than Hannah on the perimeter. Still work to do!"
"I was a bit but saying their games are different. I could see Journey as your big 4th guard/stretch 4. Hannah is probably more of a power forward who has to play the 5."

Just posted her recent stats so it seems plausible at least for now that she's made progress to fill in for the 2-4 roles.
5 Journey Houston | 5'11"
STATS: 20.1 PPG | 7.8 RPG | 3.2 APG | 58.5/32.3/69.4
IMPACT: 3.6 SPG | Elite Two-Way Star

Of course 1.5 years later some of this may have changed. Hopefully others who have seen her play since her injury can speak to how she is coming along on her outside game to fill any of these 3 roles.

Btw, Divine Bourrage just went down with an injury so Houston may get some time at PG now if I'm understanding @HIWILLE correct.

EDIT:
Appending the 2023-24 season stats post regarding these two.
Seems strange to me that the team is ranked 14th in class 5A and 35th overall in the state of Iowa and they have 2 of the best players in the country.
Am I missing something?

Don't know how he got those 2 numbers.
Their State 5A Ranking is 7th going by his report date.

Don't have a twitterX account to see the comments on that DN Report post but my gut tells me someone surely has called him out on both of those numbers by now.

He seems to have provided the right stats for Journey and Divine.
Sort on points so they both come to the top of the list.

Seems the 16-5 record includes a scrimmage game according to this.

The disparity in the roster of girls high school teams is just crazy. Go look at the scores of some of the games on a weekly basis. It's actually worse than football in most cases. It's pretty much all the rich suburban schools and nobody else, which is kind of what football has come down to plus throw in some of the Catholic schools like Dowling who is always good. And for some reason participation in high school girls basketball seems to be going down, which I think is odd.

Hays nets 33 as No. 1 Wasilla girls post team’s highest scoring game since 2017

"The all-state senior center delivered the goods for the No. 1-ranked Wasilla girls basketball team in Thursday’s 87-66 victory over Service in the Valley, but a tough night at the foul line prevented her from having an epic performance.

She recorded 33 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, two steals and one blocked shot in an effort every bit as good as the numbers. Her only hiccup was uncharacteristically poor free-throw shooting as she missed nine of 10 attempts, which cost the Iowa signee a chance to bag a 40-burger.

She’ll take the win, but Hays was obviously frustrated. Each miss at the line drew a different reaction as she shook her head, starred off in disbelief, fixed her scrunchy or rolled her eyes. Wasilla coach Jeannie Hebert-Truax was also perplexed and threw her hands in the air as she looked at her assistant coaches in disbelief.

It happens – even to star players.
...
With the win, the top-ranked and defending Class 4A state champion Warriors (16-0) extended their winning streak to 21 games and produced their highest scoring game since hanging 83 points on Palmer in 2017."
