Iowa WBB Class of 2026 Recruiting Thread

If she doesn’t want to go to Iowa, she needs to say so. Myself I think she’s waiting for a very nice commit or two then she will come aboard. We’ll see. Now that’s just my thought.

If Lewis wanted to be a Hawk she would have committed already. She wants out of state and I hope she gets her way. I am tired of the drama surrounding Lewis. I saw her play and wasn’t thinking she’s a must have.
Kinda agree.

She's above average in most aspects of the game, but I'd have a difficult time telling you what her greatest strength is.

The same argument could've been made about Clark, who committed basically right at Signing Day. Some players just want to go through the process.

Revenue sharing could also be throwing a wrench into things in ways it hasn't for prior classes. Some teams might be waiting on final approval before finalizing offers to players.

Few 2026 recruits will commit before the revenue-sharing settlement is approved, which is expected next week. Only five of the top 60 recruits have committed. Give it a few more weeks, and things will start happening. People on here are way too impatient.

I noticed that Raina has liked a couple post the last 2 months from Emilia Krstevskii. 6 ‘4 post out of California.

Interesting because if we did get her that’d be 3 straight years of posts.

Watching Faith Family vs. Montverde now on ESPNU for HS Nationals.

Amari Byles (26) and Saniyah Hall (26) are really good— they look like they are going to be great pros and huge impact players in college.

I'm wondering how much impact there will be on recruiting with Raina leaving. Expecting Tia to leave also. All of a sudden the Iowa women's team and coaches have gotten real Caucasian.

Hoping we find another Raina ( and Tania if she goes too—gulp)! Need that. Liked the suggestion of Zion. Or Kach/Kachine?) the recruiting and defensive angles both important.

Pretty sure molly davis is coaching somewhere. I know kachine coached somewhere. Both don't have much experience.

I feel bad about matt gatens. I don't know if he'd make the switch or if they'd even want him.

Is their anyone else out their that's a former black and gold that we have a chance at?

give Tania a raise and move up the ranks and I don't think she's moving.

I think its all about recruiting, not necessarily anyone with ties to Iowa. I don't understand how playing at Iowa or being from Iowa, translates into being a good coach. IMO, if you are a good coach or recruiter, great, the other stuff is fluff. Recruits could care less.
True and we just lost our head recruitor. That Jan's job before she's going to have to pick up some of the slack.

But no I was just going off what they did last year. The 2 hires were connected to iowa. Raina also coached the 3-4s. So we need someone to fill that too

Btw gatens can cover both

Tania is in that coach in waiting spot. I think she either moves up or follows Raina. I noticed that Kate and her triner were in carver, I wonder if that was auditioning to be player dvelopment coach (filiing the spot Tania would be promoted from?) Molly is coaching at a smaller school, so moving to Rainas stsff would be a step up. Doyle is plyer development for Va Tech I think, so coming home could be a step up, but shes only been there one year. Logic is at Oregon, so coming to Iowa would be a lateral move unless she could come in as a higher level coach? There are probably some older players/managers that we are missing. I dont know if there would be any retiring wnba players that could make the jump? There is also Syd, who could be looking to move into coching, so player development or grad whatever ccould be on the table at either FGCU or Iowa.

I'd be happy with Doyle or logic. I do kinda agree though with Tania. If she doesn't get a bigger role. Raina would be glad to make her #2 down in florida. Now does that come at a paycut?? Probably..

Let's not forget Tania is down in Tampa right now. Only like an hour away from fort Myers (fgcu). I live in orlando now so I know what's around.

Plain and simple hire the best person you can regardless of ties to Iowa or not, Talk to people like Brandon Clay who train and interact with the best players in the country and interact with coaches from all across the country, Get their feedback on coaches that they feel may be interested in the position at Iowa. I’m guessing people ln positions like Brandon have a pretty good feel in regard to who in the coaching ranks have the chops.

How is Matt Gatens a good recruiter for women's basketball? Do girls want to be recruited by a guy? Maybe there are a few out there but most staffs are women (and that trend is growing). Yes, there are exceptions, but I think even a head coach like Geno has the females on staff connect with the girls.
Not saying he is yet. But he's a recruiter. He has relationships with coaches. Yes on the mens side but it would translate over.

In the state of iowa his name means something. If we're recruiting in iowa the parents know his name and their going to be a little giddy.

Their are male head coaches and don't think for a minute their not in contact with recruits.

I'm just saying he has experience in recruiting. Plus the guy was one of the best 2-3 players in the recent hawkeye history. He could coach the big dogs!! He's got experience now.

Maybe I'm biased. He is my favorite player in iowa history in my lifetime.

What are Lucy Olsons future plans? Not saying iowa should hire her but was curious. Personally think she would make a great recruiter for a college team. Seems to be a great teammate and well liked even though she played just one year. She could relate to players moving half across the country to play, could relate to players transferring from other schools, young and fairly well known(1st team all Big Ten I think). Probably would give WNBA a try?

She would be a nice Grad Assistant but, like some have said, she has more basketball to play and $ to collect.

Sam Logic hasn't coached at Oregon, she was involved with an AAU program in Wisconsin at one time. She said in an interview with Swish Appeal it was a rumor and has no idea how it started.

I still think she could be a quality back up PG in the WNBA. And new CBA will likely allow that to be a newly profitable career path.

Agree more about a culture fit with Iowa and staff than Iowa roots —same as Raina. Fingers crossed —this seems really important to continuing our progress…

Was creeping on the Jan and Abby’s followers list on instagram..

Came across this.. Jan liked 2 posts in October and January 1st of 42nd ranked Adaline Sheplee.. doesn’t seem like she has a known offer from Iowa though.

Lol I love start of the post. So I was creepin..

To follow up..

She has posted pics of visits to
SC
UNC
Iowa..

With the announced visits to
Ohio State and Vandy.. could that be her final 5?

Sadly she posted a good luck post to SC in the final four and a picture of her and Dawn from her old visit together.

She visited USC quite a while ago. There are pictures in one of her stories. And Stanford is in her back yard, so she's probably been to campus (potentially many times) without posting pictures about it.

Some thoughts on Woliczko's recruitment by team. I put the teams I see as less likely higher up.

Florida State- No visit yet. I'd be stunned if she went there. The program doesn't have much going for it at the moment.

North Carolina- Visited well over a year ago. Have been good but not great in Banghart's time there. Just graduated their three leading scorers, so their future at the moment doesn't exactly scream potential contender. I'd be surprised if she ends up there.

Vanderbilt- Visiting soon. Blakes and Pierre are an exciting duo, but they really haven't accomplished much yet. Ralph has two first round exits in her four years. No top recruits in the 2025 class. I'd be surprised if they have a ton of money for players. Or at least a ton of money that isn't invested in keeping Blakes and Pierre. I think they are unlikely.

Stanford- The close to home option. No Instagram pictures of time spent at the school seems relevant. Just had the program's worst season in decades. I do think being stuck in the ACC is a disadvantage. Also, Stanford has three Top 100 recruits in its 2025 class standing 6'2' or taller, so playing time could be an issue. Her top 10 also doesn't scream I want to stay close to home.

Texas- No visit yet. Would overlap for a year with Madison Booker at a similar position, so she probably wouldn't start right away. I don't think you can rule them out yet. If Bjorn goes there you might be able to, though.

USC- Visited almost three years ago. LA really isn't that close to her home, so going there wouldn't be a Clark situation where every home game is an easy drive away for family. If she were really interested, I would've expected her to make it down for a game at some point this year. The program's future is also up in the air with JuJu's injury and the recent transfers out.

Ohio State- I don't really have a ton here for or against. They take a big hit with graduations and McMahon leaving. Cambridge is a nice building block, but the future is murky. That said, they always seem to reload and land big recruits.

Notre Dame- No visit yet. A Notre Dame board seems to think her dad is a Notre Dame fan, but I don't know what that's based on. UConn's main board seems to link her to ND, but again I don't see what the basis of that is. Notre Dame's only 2025 commit ranked #19 in the class and likely plays Woliczko's position. It's also an awkward time for the program with so many transfers out.

South Carolina- Obviously a serious contender when she's wishing them well in the title game. That said, does she want to spend the first year or two of her career coming off the bench? They have Joyce Edwards in a similar position. Staley doesn't start freshman very often, at least recently.
