Iowa will be better next year

Bottom line is next recruiting class has a lot more bigger bodies getting pushed around in the Big Ten is a lot of our problem. I also think we just need a fresh batch of players the class leaving is good they are are too tentative in games and really know how to puke in the last 5 minutes

You may have a point, there. However, there is no chance you could ever get me to read that book!

I'll tell you what got me to read it: Hours and hours and hours of a choice between listening to Balbinot on the radio in a UI parking booth or time spent reading whatever my college buds recommended. I'm sorry for being snappy with you. We're both bleeding some black-and-gold tonight. And we'll both be tuning in throughout March.

I posted something similar in a response on another board and wanted to see what you all thought. After reading this board the last couple of weeks, I am confident that next years team will be better. Losing Gesell will help since he isn't any good and can't finish at the rim. Uthoff is playing awful and is afraid to shoot in the last minutes of the game so it will be good to get rid of him. Outside of rebounding Woodbury won't be a big loss. Clemmons doesn't seem to catch as much heat as the others so I guess he will be missed. So besides being a top ten team next year, how many wins do you think Iowa will have? 25-30?

Stupid post, Woody is the heart and soul of this team, he plays harder than anybody on the team and his D and rebounding are a major factor to say he won't be loss shows how LITTLE you know about BB, as for Iowa being better next year, that is laughable at best they will be a 2-3 win BIG team next year...

Oh no worries, and sorry for coming off like a DB. Everyone is understandably a little on edge after the last couple weeks--I try not to take anything said on here seriously. But you're right though, I want so bad for these kids to succeed and finish their careers strong. OMG, Balbinot WOULD force me to read SOMETHING...or gouge out my ears! haha!

And enough with this Fran-bashing. My first year at Iowa as a student was Todd Lickliter's first year at Iowa. This is so much better. And it's better than Alford. Won't comment on Dr. Tom because I was too young. There are people who are optimistic about our chances next year because they see talent in this year's true freshman class. And we have a monster in Cook joining us next year. I hate you if you doubt Fran at this point. You simply lack perspective on Hawkeye hoops and I don't care how much older you are than me. Whatever with this year's tease. Our program is in much better shape and there's no one available who's going to take us to the "next level." This very fine season has been brought to you by a staff that has been more and more successful and will be able to recruit more effectively going forward. I hate Hawkeye fans.

Then go back to UNI, and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out !!!

Experience is overrated, case and point is this year's team. One of the most experienced teams in the country and same mistakes year after year. Athleticism and player development is all that matters. A lot of these graduating seniors are the same players they were when they got to Iowa City.

We will be inexperienced next year, but not without some experience and team continuity. This is who we have Returning :
Jok
Moss
Baer
Hutton
Uhl
Williams
Jones
Fleming
Ellisngson
Wagner

That's 10 guys who have played together since at least last June. Name one team in the B1G that has that many players RETURNING next year?

The Hawks may not dominate like we did a month ago when we were firing on all cylinders, and the handcheck was still a foul, but we will be good. We will surprise some teams. Count on it!

I don't know what our record will be (anything is possible) but I do think the team will be fun to watch as we will be more athletic next season ... Jok as a senior ... Bring in Cook ... Jones, Wagner ... Uhl ... Williamson ... Flemming ... Hutton ... Yeah ... this will be fun to watch. Don't know what the record will be but will be fun to see who steps up ... Jok will be counted on as the leader ...

To win consistently and win big, you have to have guards who you can trust to score points at the end of the games. Unfortunately, the two that are the closest examples of that are leading Kentucky and UNC right now.
Iowa's had plenty of talent the last three years, just the composure to finish. Asking a first time starter to do that next year is a significant undertaking.

There is a 0% chance that we will be better next year. 0%. I do feel better about next year after tonight, but we will have serious growing pains next year. Just in case you missed it OP, 0% chance of being better next year.

Yea the OP was sarcasm.

Ready to hopefully see some wins the rest of this year and I'm ready to see the next crop of talent coming in and how it meshes, building for 2017 and beyond with next season.

I'm an Iowa grad (2012, not bragging, just haven't changed my handle). And, when you punctuate your thoughts with "!!!" it makes me doubt that you qualified for Hawkeye CC.

I think the players over all played to the best of their ability and talent.

The Iowa hoops program really needs an ace recruiter. This is true of any coaching staff that wants to succeed here.

Well, with our new recruits coming in, Alcindor, Chamberlain, and Robertson, we better be better. Half this board probably has no idea who those guys are, but I threw it out there anyway.

They will be a team with more street cred and less chokers, but they won't be nearly as good.

So figure that one out I guess.

No way will they be better next year.
The bar has definitely been lowered the last couple of games. Iowa is 20-9 with a Big Ten record of 11-6. Big Ten record may be hard to top but you have to imagine Fran is going to play an easier non-conference schedule next year and they'll pick up a few more wins in the non-conference. I really don't think 20 wins is a big stretch for next year. One other thing is that next year's team should get better as the season goes on because of the inexperience. They may not have a better record but they could easily have a better feel for post season success compared to this year. I could easily see Iowa fans being very excited come tournament time next year. Unlike what people think about this team in the tournament.

I enjoyed this very much along with the pic of Slim Pickens. Well done sir!

I don't think it's likely they'll be better overall. Very low probability of getting a January like this one.
But, what we might see is a team that is hopefully on the upswing rather than collapsing as tourney time approaches. That would make for a more enjoyable season that what the overall record might indicate.

Our opportunity lies in nobody, including many on this board, believe we will be any good next season. Hawks generally do better without a target on their back, football and basketball. As soon as we started to get noticed, Uthoff for player of year, Fran for coach of year, we go into the toilet. I like the level of talent, not sure Jok is the senior leader we are really looking for but I'll be following them and pulling for them, like I always do.

The potential is there, but there will be growing pains early... we need to secure the point and I like what CW has showed. Don't know how Moss is progressing, but have heard his name as well? We will be young, long, and very athletic. I like the possibilities!

Forgot to mention that Jok won't have the seniors around him holding him back. Not only will Iowa be much better, Pete is a likely national POY.

Your analysis of this years team sucks, so I don't put much stock in your predictions for next year. We will definitely miss all 4 senior starters. I think we have some talent returning, but without having seen Hutton and Moss, my concern would be who can score from the perimeter/3 pt. line besides Jok?

Oh I don't know, how's about Uhl, Baer, Ellingson, Jones & Williams?

We'll miss Uthoff, because he was the straw that stirred the drink. We'll miss woody because he was good for certain matchups.

Gesell/Clemmons-->will miss the experience, but next guys will hopefully have more upside.
