Iowa Women Make WNIT

Wow...what am embarrassment. Bluder has to go. Drake is better and is winning with Iowa kids. Heck even UNI picked up an NCAA tourney at large bid ahead of Iowa.

How many Iowa women's games did you attend this past season? Do you understand Drake automatically qualified by winning their conference and Iowa beat UNI earlier?

Notice how ESPN takes a shot at the Big Ten again calling it a weak conference when MD and OSU were both top 10 teams. OSU might be 11 now but I'd hardly say the B1G was weak given that Michigan and Purdue were also tough this year.

If you look at their seedings, the committee didn't think much either.

I followed the team, but didnt make it to any games. Assumng you did, what makes Bluder the answer right now?

For the record, I am not sold on Fran either, but he has a roster full of potential and is looking good for the next few years.

I assume your definition of Bluder being the right or wrong answer right now is different than mine for many reasons.

An argument can be made that it's time for a change but I also think an argument can still be made for Bluder. A lot of the players earning minutes this season were freshman and sophomores. Iowa was very competitive in several of its losses and the game slipped away in the closing minutes. Despite back to back WNITs, Bluder has a record of getting her team to the NCAA. She's been consistent and has a B1G championship and two BTT championships under her belt.

Michigan is in the WNIT just like Iowa.

Just another reason this committee is a joke considering Michigan's RPI and overall record was better than Michigan State or Purdue. The committee is relying way too much on perception just like the archaic RPI system relies too much on perception initially. I hope the new metric will be a better measure of strength. The Pac 12 and SEC are great conference but the B1G ain't no punching bag.

Shelf life......

Other in-state matchups:

Iowa State a 9 seed against Syracuse. Gets UCONN in the 2nd round.

Drake a 10 vs Kansas State. Gets Stanford in 2nd Rd.

UNI a 10 vs DePaul. Mississippi State should beat Troy to face the winner in the 2nd Rd.

Hawks vs Missouri St. on the 16th in Carver.

And if they win, they will play the winner of North Dakota vs. South Dakota. North Dakota probably wants revenge if they can beat South Dakota on the road. Full brackets here:

I wonder if South Dakota fans will stay in town until Friday morning to see if both Iowa and South Dakota women's teams win and therefore they might just stick it out in Iowa City if Iowa plays S Dakota women in Iowa City in the second round.

Barring an unforeseen scandal, Bluder will be around for several years unless she elects to retire or leave for greener pastures ( I believe Iowa is her dream job). Her recruiting results are on an upswing. Stale? On a plateau? That might reflect a poster's level of interest in the program, but I doubt it is shared by the coaching staff or Megan Gustafson, Mackenzie Meyer, K. Doyle or others on the team itself!

Well said.

I guess two NIT seasons after 8 straight NCAA seasons is "stale".

Maybe we should fire her and hire someone to "get us to the next level". Amirite?

Didn't they just lose a bunch of seniors last year? Aren't they a young team like the Men's team??

I think she is doing just fine. She is getting some darn good talent coming into IC.

That's a heck of a conclusion to draw. I definitely support them, but I am a realist. Bluder's tenure has become stale. She's had a nice career,but I think it's a plateau.

I support the ladies as well but do agree with those who are ready for a change. The staff has done a pretty good job recruiting so there is nice talent on the team and they are young this year.

My support for Bluder is wavering but you do make some good points here.

That was two years ago, when Logic, Dixon and Doolittle graduated. Last years seniors were not impact players (Till might have been if she had two good knees). This freshman class ended up being extra guard-heavy when we were able to pick up Doyle late. Apparently the decision was made that a 4 guard lineup put the best 5 players on the floor, even if 3 were freshmen. To be fair, this year's juniors did not set the place on fire, and hard to see at this point if they will be very effective next season.
