IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Iowa wrestling program opens the 2015-16 season hosting Oklahoma State in the “Grapple on the Gridiron” at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. (CT).

The Hawkeyes and Cowboys, with a combined 57 national titles (Iowa 23, OSU 34), aim to become the first NCAA wrestling teams to compete in a Division I football stadium in NCAA history and set a new NCAA dual meet attendance record. The dual is scheduled in advance of the Iowa football team’s game against Minnesota at 7 p.m. (BTN).

The “Grapple on the Gridiron” is included in the Iowa wrestling season ticket package, which is available for purchase at the UI Athletic Ticket Office, online at hawkeyesports.com, or over the phone at 1-800-IA-HAWKS. Season ticket holders have the first opportunity to purchase additional single tickets to “Grapple on the Gridiron.” General public tickets are available Oct. 1, 2015. Seating is reserved.

The first 15,000 tickets sold will have reserved seating at Carver-Hawkeye Arena should the dual move indoors. Tickets purchased after the first 15,000 will be redeemable for an adult admission ticket to any other home dual on the Hawkeyes’ 2015-16 schedule.

Beginning today, season ticket holders also have the first opportunity to purchase ticket packages to Carver-Hawkeye Arena postseason events, including the 2016 Big Ten Championships and 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Iowa, the national attendance leader in each of the last nine seasons, is chasing the NCAA dual attendance record currently owned by Penn State (15,996). The Hawkeyes’ attendance record of 15,955 (Dec. 6, 2008 vs. Iowa State) stood for five years before the Nittany Lions broke the record against Pitt on Dec. 8, 2013.

Iowa’s remaining home schedule includes five Big Ten opponents, a nonconference dual against South Dakota State, the Iowa City Duals, and the Big Ten Championships. The conference tournament is March 5-6 on Mediacom Mat at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Maryland headlines an Iowa City Duals lineup that includes Cornell College, Iowa Central CC, and Grand Canyon State. The Terps will make their first ever appearance in Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Nov. 20.

The Big Ten home schedule includes duals against Rutgers (Dec. 10), Purdue (Jan. 22), Minnesota (Jan. 30), and Indiana (Feb.5). Conference road dates include trips to Illinois (Jan. 8), Northwestern (Jan. 10), Wisconsin (Jan. 16), and Nebraska (Jan. 24).

The Hawkeyes return to the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Illinois, on Dec. 29-30. The NCAA Championships are contested March 17-19 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

SCHEDULE NOTES: All start times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date.

So once again the powers to be at the B10 do not schedule Iowa vs Penn State or Iowa vs tOSU.
Way to promote our sport and conference (insert thumb in arse here). WTF!!

Isn't it simply on a rotating schedule?

Sure it is on a rotating schedule, but why not use some common sense and promote your conference on a national stage when you have the opportunity.

Are you saying to change the rotating schedule midstream? Or to try and guess which teams will be good in several years?

Are you saying to change the rotating schedule? Or to try and guess which teams will be good in several years?

As far as I know the schedules are not made up years in advance. Seems like some flexibility would be available to try and create some B10 network attractive matchups. Isn't that part of the reason we have our own network?

So, is the plan to wrestle outside in the elements at Kinnick, with a plan B of moving into Carver if it isn't conducive OR will they try to erect a bubble or something to wrestle inside of, no matter the weather outside?

I am still foggy on the specifics of this idea. Also, just curious what people think...what is the worst case outside weather scenario that would still allow this to be wrestled? In other words, are they good down to 30 degrees say and no precipitation OR any temp will be OK, but any precip will derail it, etc?

Mid-November weather can be anything from 15 degrees and a cold NW wind blowing to 70 degrees and sunny...and just about anything in between.

I assumed that meant inside only if it's raining or snowing on the mat.

wrestled both last year
Neither (in B1G competition at least) the year prior
and both in 12 13.

I'd guess they have some, based on geography, that will happen yearly and others that will be every other year. It's a large conference and every school will compete against each other. It has little to do with the B1G promoting wrestling (programs need to do that and make it something people want to see, not sit and wait for a TV network to decide that on their own). The B1Gs goal will be to get every school to compete against each other in a somewhat sensible way in terms of travel. When you have a small dual conference schedule this will be a result. Now, if we could get two seasons like track does, we could have a more extensive dual schedule.

Would be great if the wrestlers did their own tunnel walk to "Back in Black" and trotted out of the tunnel to the mat in their own little swarm. The Kinnick crowd would go bonkers. Hope they do that.

They are sending them out tomorrow or early next week to everyone... they were supposed to go out today but some wording on them wasn't quite right so they held off to make sure everything made at much sense as possible before they went out. This includes the option to but Olympic Trials tickets and Big Ten tournament tickets. There are a bunch of packages to choose from which can be a little confusing so make sure you sit down and read it through a few times. (Part of the problem with having so many awesome events coming to town and trying to take care of our season ticket holders in the process)

I hope they get a fire permit to at least allow a couple thousand extra to pack into Carver if weather screws it up. Edit: That may be tough according to Tom.

Anyone else besides me entertained that Ostrander hit upon ' way to insert thumb in arse' and then Ping 72 comes along with a winking guy with outstretched thumb? o_O Must by my inner 12year old self coming back;) Going to be a great year to be a season ticket holder!

If the 34 and Counting message board is any indication, we won't be getting a whole heck of help from the Orange and Black as far as the attendance goes. I heard crickets chirping over there. There's more commotion at the Penn St forum, and they're not even wrestling us.
SMH. Come on Cowboys! This is history in the making! I know I'd be blowing up their board for good restaurants and hotels if they held a duel with Iowa in Boone Pickens Stadium.

Yeah, a couple guys over here acting irrational, but most wish you the best. I personally wish you good luck and hopes for a successful event...excellent press if all goes well. Hat's off to TB and JS for making it happen
