What's with conference games Dec. 2 and 4? What changed that they have a conference game that early in the season?

I can't recall the last time they played a B1G game before the student winter break started.

BTT is moved up a week this year due to it being held in NYC.

They would have had conference games in December even without that. The coaches wanted to not have conference games starting with no students on campuses (week between Christmas and New Year). It also does help get the season done earlier to accommodate the BTT in NY.

They've had conference games in December for years, correct? Usually, though, they've been in that last week of December.
Not sure if this is good or bad for the Hawks.

All conference teams have to play 2 games in that 4 day stretch. One home, one away. So theoretically, everyone is affected the same way. Back to back away games to Indiana and ISU is tough though.

I hate the nine day layoff between the end of the BTT and the start of the NCAA's.

All for the almighty dollar. Seems like a whole lot of disruption/stupidity just to have the btt in NYC if you ask me.

It does seem weird to have two early Dec B1G games and then have a long layoff between the BTT and the Dance. Would sure be great to get two wins early, then get ready for the rest of what is the easiest conference schedule for the Hawks in a long time.

The first two games in December are reasonable. IU will have had to play @Michigan two days prior and that's the kind of important game that requires a lot of attention, exertion, etc where we have a Penn State that should not require as much focus on our turf.

A road challenge in Bloomington should also give the newbies a taste of what they'll see later that week in Ames so it won't be so much of a shock. I'd have liked more time to prepare for State, but it'll be a fun stretch.

Predictions
PSU - W
@ IU - L
Mich - W
OSU - W
@Turtles - W
@Illini - L
@Rut - W
OMHR - W
Wisc - W
@Neb - W
Minny - W
@PSU - L
Sparty - L
@OSU - W
@Mich - L
IU - W
@Minny - W
NW - W

13-5 won't be good enough to win anything, but it'd be something to build on.

Ehh, 13-5 will definitely have us in the race though. I would take it.

We could realistically be 7-1 or 8-0 going into that game at Indiana btw people.

Well this is about the dumbest thing ever!
So b1g basketball starts the same day as the football championship?
Brilliant.....

Well at least we'll have plenty of hawks in indy for the monday game :D

Wisconsin and Ohio State play each other in basketball that Saturday. Coincidence?

This didn't even come across my radar. Wow, that is dumb. I'm guessing these will all be 12 or 2 pm tips?

Look at 1/20, 1/23, 1/30 and 2/6. There is war in Carver coming! Iowa vs everybody!!!!

One of the many fun things about B10 basketball season is that there are no gimme's. Penn State is a good example of that. They have arguably their most talented roster in quite some time. That roster now has experience to boot, and that experience and talent is in the guard court. I get it, these are the games that the Hawks have to win if they want to accomplish what they are capable of......just sayin, there are no gimme's and they won't show up and roll over for us.

And to repeat myself, that is what makes basketball season fun....the battle. Penn State will be a battle. Didn't Wisconsin go into Rutgers last year and get beat....probably didn't show up with the intensity that they should have.

Only 3 Saturday home games?? WTF?

I wish they would put us more on Saturdays, makes it better for travel and also leaves Sundays open!

Fri., Dec. 22 vs. Colorado Sioux Falls, S.D.

Can someone explain this to me? Are we actually playing Colorado in Sioux Falls?

No Big East crossover this year. Not being a dick but it's kinda old news.

They're playing in the smallish arena up in SF. I think ISU and Wisconsin have played there recently.

That opening game with PSU ought to be interesting. They are probably as excited about their young talent as we are ours.

If the FB team can somehow get to Indy, may have to stick around a few days and watch the hoops team in Bloomington

Has any compiled last year's RPIs of our non con opponents? How many 275+?
Not sure about RPI's, but we have 6 KenPom 300+ and I think the "best" of those was like 325. There is really no excuse for how many bad opponents we have and it creates a really thin margin of error in the rest of the noncon.

Correct opponent but wrong season (time flies). Bucky's 2015 Final Four team lost at Rutgers the second week of January.

I'm going to be completely honest, I think this Iowa team could very well win 30 games in the regular season. This is the best schedule Iowa has had in Fran's tenure and maybe even the last 10 years or so. I feel a special season brewing in Iowa City.

So Iowa is going to go 30-1 in the regular season? Give me some of what you're smoking.

So normally you are dishonest? I find that hard to believe with your post.
