"Iowa's Home Court advantage is as good as there is in the league."

Iowa has a lot of passionate fans, however I have two criticisms:

1) If 1/2 the student section is going to be empty reallocate those tickets. Maybe come up with some family plans...

2) Move some of the court side big donors further back. They could do a section with bigger / more comfortable seats (similar to the press section.)

1) smart coaches always say nice things about an opponent’s arena, especially after loss
2) people have been complaining about the blue-hairs at Carver since the place was built. They aren’t moving anytime soon.

There are thousands that pay big bucks for premium seating and never show up for preseason games and many big games due to day or weather

Bad idea. Five year olds trying to see over standing students.

They already have the $1K+ table seating that is not full.

Rutgers Head coach said that in the post game press conference.

Weird. :)

Andy Katz then called CHA a hostile environment.

What the hell is going on? ;)

This topic seems to be your jam because you have started lots and lots of posts about this same issue.

Why are you so keenly sensitive about it?

I’ve attended college basketball games at every single B1G venue except Nebraska (which looks really nice, btw). I’ve got my own idea of the home court pecking order based on those experiences as I’m sure many people do. Is there something wrong with those of us who don’t have CHA at the top? Truth is, most schools are doing it better than Iowa right now. It is what it is and quoting Andy Katz isn’t going to change it.

I’d rather have a great team and an average home court than the other way around any day. And we’ve got that. Enjoy it!

What exactly are you trying to accomplish with these posts? Do you think you are changing other people’s opinions of CHA with them? Did your grandfather design the place? Was your first child conceived there? What is it?

If you want the student ticket section full, then you sell the tickets to the students and allow them to sell them to whomever they want. Same for Football. I would say that you could police it to say that you cannot sell them on Stub Hub or similar platforms, but it a student wants to sell his ticket to another student, or a student that has friends in from out of town, then allow it. Also, allow some fun in the stands again. Beach Balls at Football games and Bota Bags being passed around adds a lot to the atmosphere.

Carver is a sterile environment lacking character and acoustics. That’s about it. Plus it’s sucks to walk up 30 rows to pee or get a Coke If you have decent seats. The place will definetly grow on you but let’s face it - it’s just a terribly designed arena and hopefully we will get a new one some day.

No. No, dude. You’ve got it all wrong. You have a poor grasp of objective reality.

Didn’t you hear what Andy Katz said?

LOL

You would be perfectly at home on the Rutgers board with the exact same #2 complaint

You put a good product on the floor, and the students will come, see football. The student section is better than what it was 5-8 years ago. Allow it to continue to grow, and no one will have an issue. However, that requires a good product continue to be put on the floor. We have at minimum another good year, and it does like like we have some good young pieces we can work with.

Carver lacks character? There are literally only a couple basketball arenas like it in the country.

I hear positive comments from opposing fans every game. It looks like you are walking into a military base buried in a hill and BOOM you are suddenly looking down into an imposing 15k seat bowl.

as far as acoustics, not sure what else you want. I won’t bring my youngest kid to conference games because it gets too loud in there, and the new sound system and video boards are great.

Yeah, it is louder ever since they enclosed part of the top of the bowl.
It is a steep walk down. Lute used to complain about it being too comfortable, too hard to get people out of their seats to cheer.

It’s unique I’ll give it that. I’ve been going to games there since it opened. I also went to 5 years worth of games at the old field house. I think everyone can agree that one was a home court advantage and the other not so much. Just my opinion.

I love this idea. Put in movie theater type seats that are soft and have a cup holder.

Move the big donors seats up to rows 15-25 in a couple sections along center court. probably wouldn't even have to change the structure at all, just lose a seat or two per row.

It would be like first class airline seats. Coming from a bigger guy, this would be awesome.

If they really want to get fancy, have an app where big dollar seats can order food and drinks and have it delivered to their seat.

Big donors are what they are. They are big hawk fans. They may not bring the most excitement but they bring the money when improvements are needed. I think everyone should back off these people and appreciate what they bring to the table. I don't care if they never do more than a golf clap, I appreciate their support for Hawkeye athletics.

CHA is not the old fieldhouse. It is a balance between comfort and environment.

A large number of people would not come if cha was as loud as the field house, or as uncomfortable, or as bad sight lines as some seats had.

The field house had it's deficiencies as well,. Don't make it out to be the perfect arena.

I personally love the look of CHA. But I can appreciate why others might not like it. But it's all we have for now, and it's not going anywhere for a while.

Never listen to a word Katz says. He's not a very bright bulb and usually says the exact opposite of reality.

I remember the early days. If you have a good team, it gets loud. We haven't really had a good team for a while. I think you need shooters to excite the fans, and we were sort of mediocre most years.

My recollection of the old Fieldhouse was a somewhat dusty environment due to a recent ROTC drill behind the huge curtain, while sitting on bleachers and having a support column right in he middle of you view of the court.

In those days you usually had to actually attend games to watch them as they were not broadcast so people could sit and home and complain about lack of noise by those who do attend. You could listen to it on radio, but the play by play announcers alway seem to be about 5 seconds behind the action on the court. You would hear the crowd cheer before the announcers told you they had scored.

The noisy environment was because the teams on the court were great.

Wow! I had no idea Chad Leistikow said that.

Chad Leistikow, y'all. Chad FREAKING Leistikow!!!!!!

This changes EVERYTHING!! My previous world view has been profoundly shaken. This information has definitely caused me to rethink everything I know about Iowa basketball. There can be no doubt now that CHA is the envy of everyone in the nation.

Thanks so much for posting!!

Think this was Pikiell’s veiled attempt at dissing the officiating. Katz agreed. Fran was happier with it the second half.
