Just left the biggest in austin, store was dead, no customers , employees standing around.

The BB in Grapevine/Southlake is always busy. They sell some big ticket items in there like Viking Ranges in there !!

The only thing that can save them is their customer service which ranges from excellent to embarrassing depending on the day. I'd say 20-30% of the time I've been in there the last 5 years I've been given advice that turned out to be flat out wrong.

Although the dirty little secret of Best Buy is they make a ton of their money on warranties. The service plans their salesmen practically beg you to buy are what is keeping them afloat.

I go in there to try out stuff to buy it from Amazon. Please don't go Best Buy.

Okay, I'm looking for a 32" 1080p non-smart TV for my game room. No freaking weirdo Chinese brands. Best Buy generally has one of these for around $200. Where can I get a better buy?

I buy ink for my printer there...mostly because there's one close to my house and I always seem to run out when I need it right away.

I've never had Best Buy not match a price for me. Don't wait for shipping and easier to handle returns if it gets messed up.

They only match price if the item is sold by the big name vendors. For example, Amazon, if it's sold on Amazon by a third party at a better price they won't match it. It has to be sold by Amazon. At least that's been my experience. I hear what you're saying though, it's nice to be able to take an item back to a brick and mortar close by.

I've even had them match employee pricing through direct purchase. They are a huge seller, they likely get equal or better pricing than any other retailer.

I've bought a refrigerator and TV from there in the past 2 years. Both times I couldn't have got the item cheaper anywhere else. I always like going in there to check out the merchandise first before buying anywhere else. You can see what TVs have the best picture, what laptops are made out of, how nice is the keyboard, etc. I personally think Best Buy stores are too big. The whole middle section of movies and games can be shrunk down to a quarter of their current size.

I buy maybe 6 things through BB a year. Most every time, it's something I order online, then ship to store. Usually no big ticket items.

I have an order shipping to the CR store right now, a Panamax mini surge protector. Found it on sale $10 less than anywhere else had it. Free ship to store...sold.

I think BB brick and mortars still have a purpose. It's just the stores are too damn big the way they currently run them. You don't need 200 TV's in stock in every store. I also don't care for them having half the store being store branded (Insignia, Rocketfish etc). I understand they make more money per unit on them, but does anybody nowadays think an Insignia 50" LED is a good TV over say a Samsung 50" LED, even at $200 less? No.

Seems like half their sales ads are Insignia...being a bit of an audio/video snob, I'll never buy an Insignia TV or AVR.

Go back to what you used to be. Brand name seller only for big ticket items, smaller stores, better service, firm up the distribution to where if you don't have something in stock, you can get it there in 2 days. In short, a bigger "mom and pop" type store you drove out of business back in the 80's and 90's.

they will go under before they do that, now

I USED to love going into Best Buy. Honestly, I haven't been in one for about 2 years. No need. No interest. In all honesty, many of the brick and mortars will continue to struggle as shopping continues to turn online. In the last 2 weeks, I bet we had at least 14 packages arrive via Amazon. It's the way to go ... Sure, a person m ay go kick the tires to see something in person, but ordering online now is so convenient and takes away the hassle of sales people, customers, and walking around a store ...

I just bought a 60" 4k TV from best buy online and they delivered it to my house for free. No need for a store.

I bought a JBL Flip 3 for my teenager from Best Buy. Went in there and was able to test out and listen to all the different Bluetooth speaker options. I'm glad I went to Best Buy as he has been very happy with his speakers. His mother bought him the same speaker so now he can pair them up when they are in the locker room and it fills the place with good sound and they are extremely portable.

Best Buy still has its uses. If you want to test before you buy and you want it today. Not sure any brick and mortar store can survive on just that though.

You guys do know that Best Buy price matches other stores including Amazon and Newegg, right? They don't even have to be identical items-- they will sell you a rocketfish HDMI for the same price as one with like specs from Amazon for example. People are getting taxed on Amazon purchases in many states now so it's 1:1.

remember Blockbuster Music back in the day. You could go in and listen to any CD, give it a spin, then proceed to go to Best Buy to purchase it cheaper. This was before MP3's and digital music, of course
