Hubris has stained legacies and taken down lots of successful people who have felt overly secure in their position and/or their abilities. Failure was never a consideration for Kirk when he promoted Brian and I'm sure he felt confident that whatever Brian lacked to be successful, he himself could provide. When that wasn't enough he brought in Budmayr and went all in on Cade. When that wasn't enough the school brought in Beth Goetz because Kirk was hell bent on keeping Brian there for as long as he was there.

Definitely hubris for both Kirk and Brian. I differ, though, regarding your hypothesis that Kirk thought he could provide everything Brian needed to succeed. O'Keefe was supposed to do that (and perhaps also Polasek), and then Bud after those guys left.

Not everything bad that happened in 2022 was Brian's fault, but at some point that doesn't matter. Kirk, unfortunately, didn't think they had reached that point.

Look, I thought he was a decent position coach. I am not a fan of his but our offensive woes were not 100% all his fault. He should not have been elevated to OC. I could see him as an O Line Coach somewhere.
