Heaven, Iowa
Jan was asked that question.

Or are there just a couple (South Carolina, UConn)?

Or do blue bloods exist anymore with NIL?

There is just ONE TEAM (Iowa) in the nation that has made 2 consecutive national championship game appearances.

How long will the Caitlin Clark effect last for the Iowa program?

Interesting discussion:

Recruits have to be impressed with this, from yesterday:

Some of my criteria- final four appearances, winning consistency for a long period and top recruits wanting to go to a particular school every year. Some of mine are Connecticut, Notre Dame, South Carolina, LSU, Stanford, Maryland. Teams like Duke and Tennessee are somewhat "blueish", although they dropped off for a short while. As said above, Iowa has a chance. We certainly have the momentum.

Yup , but that question was asked to the associate head coach of the team who was in the NCAA championship game 2 years in a row.

Iowa is more of a "New Blood". The Geno/Kim/Dawn collective were not pleased to be defeated by a rag tag outfit like Iowa, and no effort was spared in dismissing Iowa's greatest star or it's fans.

Not even sure what makes a school officially a blue blood.

Nebraska football used to be one.

Is UNC MBB still one?
At it's most basic, the "aura" of the school/program recruits itself, often regardless of record or what other players are already on the roster. It's being able to tell a 4 star recruit we might have a spot for you if this other player doesn't commit. It's having deep NIL pockets and friends of the program. It's your team jersey on the rack in a Florida Walmart.

*And yeah, blue-bloods don't get railed by the refs at home.

I’m the biggest Iowa homer N the world, but I’m also real w/myself and no. Not really even very close. And there are more than two, and there is some grace involved even if you fall off a little bit i.e. Tennessee, but I do think there’s some possibility of sneaking on to the parking lot, maybe even onto the front lawn.

Stanford, Tenn, Baylor still, probably Texas, ND, UCONN South Carolina LSU if Mulkey stays any length of time. Maybe Maryland, been good for a longtime.

Maybe still USC….?!

It’s why for me it’s pretty important how we end this season. Obviously it’s gonna be what it is, but I’d really like to see us win these last two games, win a couple games and be ultra competitive in the conference tournament and win a game and at the least be ultra competitive in the NCAA’s.

I secretly have a hope we sneak onto the 7th seed line and play number two seed UCONN. We could win that game. I’ve seen us projected at eight playing Notre Dame. That’s not a game, I want to play at least in the second round.

LSU is definitely not a blueblood
I don't enjoy posting this, but believe it to be true. If Kim Mulkey had never left Baylor, the Bears would have a very good case to be on the blue blood list. Looking at the entirety of LSU basketball, they're not a blue blood . But, wherever Kim goes is or will be a blue blood.

it just goes to show that there are many definitions out there of what a blue blood is.

I don't think you can be a blue blood without a title but Iowa has the opportunity to get itself there if they can capitalize on the current momentum and hit on these next few recruiting classes. They've managed to maintain excitement around the program without Caitlin but they have to get back to competing for final fours regularly if they're going to talk about themselves as an elite program.

Would Iowa have become a blue blood if Coach Stringer didn't leave?

Why didn't Purdue and Penn State become blue bloods? Why didn't Ohio State?
