I think by now, even casual Hawk fans are aware of the absolute travesty going in in Drew Ott's medical redshirt saga. This has dragged on and on and on and not even Kirk Ferentz knows what is going on. Rather than giving the kid some closure, the NCAA has looked the other way and gone about their business, leaving Ott to fall between the cracks. Let's face it, looking into his situation would take 2 hours of work TOTAL.

So we can't count on a 3rd party to care about what's best for the kid. Why hasn't the U of I taken this issue been taken to the field of public opinion? Our PR department gets paid more than 90% of regular Iowans. Shouldn't they be out there doing their job and making sure this story needs to hit the national news cycle.

Public outcry is the only way the NCAA is ever going to move its enormous head and take action. The Jim Harbaugh stuff got the NCAA's immediate attention. Kids getting a free tattoo in exchange for signing autographs got its attention. But a football player's career and livelihood? Not sexy enough unless the media makes it that way.

This solution is perfectly in step with how things get done in this world today.

That being said, I am opposed to it.

Give it up. The next time you post something positive about Iowa athletics will be the first time. Your act is getting old.

If this is any example of how you make your living, remind me/us of why anyone would ever find you worthwhile let alone valuable.

"Why hasn't the U of I taken this issue been taken to the field of public opinion?" Is that really what you wrote and brought here for others to see? A very poor example of anyone that claims to be associated in any way with the 'law'.

Maybe those that say 'once an ambulance chaser, always an ambulance chaser' are right. Either that or they know you personally. I side with those that describe you aptly and have said how worn out your show here has become. Time for you to find a new hobby somewhere else.

I am pretty sure the NCAA did respond to Drew Ott in a timely matter. The answer was no. Drew Ott appealed and now it's a process.

The U of I is not at fault here no matter how much you want it to be.

I thought that it was the Big Ten that said no or said they would not make a decision and now they are appealing to NCAA.

That would be ridiculously silly and counter-productive. These matters need to handled within normal communication channels even if the NCAA is dragging.

I'm not so sure nu2u. Doing nothing is a plan and to me it appears the NCAA is on that track. It forces Drew to be the decision maker and thus no threat of a law suite. I'm sure Iowa Law can expound.

Don't know people are saying that is a bad idea. In fact, I think it is a great idea and was hoping that either Ott's camp or Iowa would start a more public outcry against the NCAA. I think he should have gotten a lawyer as well.

So just to be clear. The rules clearly outline you are not eligible. You apply anyway. They tell you no. You appeal the process.

Then you think the next step is to put public pressure on the NCAA by public outcry and hope they render a favorable decision?

Drew Ott is not participating in spring practice and was never going to participate in the Combine drills. After his knee injury it was a long shot Drew was going to be drafted. He will still get a Free Agency pick up and hopefully makes a roster.

It seems to me that pressuring the NCAA into a decision they have already made seems counter productive to what Drew is trying to accomplish. But hey at least you would get some closure.

No that's how you start the process. The best way to get NCAA to act in your favor is go public and be loud. Same as what a couple basketball players did last fall and they end up getting eligible. You have to be proactive and use any leverage you have otherwise you are just at the mercy of NCAA and they don't care about what's best for student athletes

You guys do realize this poster is Havasu.... pretty sure he is an ISU fan
Iowalaw is a clown? Do you know that? If that kind of information is knowable, we need to define a couple of lists and keep them posted where they can be readily seen by lounge members. One would include all known clowns who post here - maybe we have to base the identification on a preponderance of the evidence? There is a poster in another thread who identifies itself as a clown. That one should be the charter member of the clown list. Others may be harder to identify. Then there could be a list of posters who have more than 50% negative posts. We could have a list of misspellers and maybe a list of spelling police (just to balance the other list). Is that enough or do we need more than that? Or maybe it is enough to just ignore the members we each decide to be too irritating.

It is not the NCAA job to worry about the draft status of a kid. That is the kids job and thing to worry about.

if Ott had been a Michigan or O$U player this would have never left the BT office.

the fallacy is there are players getting a 6th year. remember the IA QB that transferred to Illinois that got a 6th year. a mental hardship I believe was why.

Not sure what you mean by this. The BT did not have the authority to grant the waiver. All it could do was deny it, which would have ended it, or allow Ott to take the case to the NCAA, which is what happened.

What would a lawyer do send a letter to the NCAA asking if they've made their decision yet ?
